Plug Wire Shields.......Necessary?
Are the metal shields on the plug wire ends there for heat shielding, or used only for RFI supression?
I'm installing a set of GM Performance Parts red wires, and need to know if I should reuse the shields from the factory plug wires or not.

Why wouldn't you? Is there a downside to a little extra protection for the plug wire boots?

The shields are actually there for EMI/RFI but do protect the boots also. They fit the red wires like a glove so,,, theres ZERO down side to using them. Believe me. If GM didnt think that they needed to be there, they wouldnt be there. They serve a purpose however slight it may be.
