I'll keep this simple ... First I said, that I once wrote in the forum tech section, a CAI is about the least expensive way to gain HP. I also wrote that many forum members didn't think so, and without saying what they thought would "turn the trick", simply wrote that I didn't know of what I wrote. Then I went on to say that I would have liked to increase my C5 HP from 345 (stock) to 400 (with additional work). I had previously installed headers, an x pipe with free flow cats., and a Corsa exhaust. (Are you all still with me?) The final addition to accomplishing 400 hp, would be a Callaway honker or Veraram CAI system. Checking with Callaway, they said I'd get close if I included a dyno tune. In choosing Veraram, it seemed like the most penurious (frugal, for the high school grads) system to use. Damn I hope you stayed with me, because pride keeps me from going further. Lynn Johnson
Are you referring to the thread where you said the throttle body would be the least expensive way to HP?
I work with this guy that got an infection in his ********,,He kept saying it was all swollen up real big. Curiosity was killing me so I said lets see it. Now we call him Tater Nut! Idaho PoTatoes were humble next to Tater Nut

Damn It - You made me spray coffee all over my keyboard & monitor.
vararam, FLP headers with x pipe, no cats on 03 ZO6 = 381rwhp, oh no tune
vararam gives seat of the pants above 70mph, down low nothing.
70+ MPH is fine with me. The west is huge and unpopulated, so stop and go at less than 70mph is not important to me. Also, somebody pointed out to me that I must have forgotten that I had originally said that the best bang for the buck is a throttle body, even though , in my confusion, I said in this thread that a CAI system gave the BBFTB. My apologies. Even though I made the error, I may still be correct, because they are both good installations, especially at 70mph+, and relatively inexpensive. However maybe it doesn't stop there. It seams that if you are going to install a Veraram CAI system together with an 80mm throttle body, that you should also add a Veraram c5 vr power duct; plus an MAF housing with 1000cfm air flow, and a c5 collant by pass kit. I'm not totally sure of what I speak, however, In order to get to a suscinct answer, you might have to wade through a number irrelevant posts by our miscreant crowd that has not much else to do but waste their lives away being stupid. Break the above into paragraphs and you're good to go.
Basically an internal combustion engine is a pump that converts incoming air and fuel into energy and exhaust.
Without actually digging into the engine internals any change that improves the flow in and out, within the range of what the stock engine can handle, will be the best bang for the buck.
So a CAI and catback is a good place to start. A better flowing throttle body and MAF will also help.
At that point you should go for a dyno tune to make the most of the changes.
You mean southern Idaho is a different state. We are normal up north
Sun Valley is sort of in the middle of the state. Boise people don't care for us, and Couer d' alene (Spelling?) has everything, except 3400' feet of skiing vertical. It is a great state and I'm glad to be here. If you come through, look us up, and I'll do the same. The Spruce Goose is in Oregon and my wife and I are going to take a ride over to see it next week. We left Nevada 15 years ago and I remember Howard Hughes in Las Vegas being a bit eccentric. Lynn Johnson
