Default C5 Z shocks

Right now my 01 Z is running on the stock shocks. I have heard that 04 shocks were more comfortable, but kept the handling performance. Would there be any reason to go for 04 shocks instead of C6 Zs?

Would either, the c6 or c5 Zs be more comfortable?

Unlike the '04 Z shock, the C6Z shock will affect the ride height. I put '04 Z shocks on my '03 ZO6 and could tell a difference in the rebound and compression rates while on track. Daily driveability was unaffected.

So is there anything that affects daily drivability?

You'll never notice a difference on the street in my opinion. The '04 Z version is just a much better tuned shock for the car in all aspects.

My 02 ZO6 has the C6 Z shocks. NO difference in ride height and it handles MUCH better. NO more wheel bounce on bumpy roads and the car handles much better on rough entrance ramps. No more side stepping.

I have a C6 coupe (Z51 suspension) and on the way to Carlisle I went around a rough sweeping on ramp. Got some side stepping and I immediately thought "Looks like I need some ZO6 shocks!"

At first initial test drive, I thought I wasted my money. No detectable difference on smooth roads. Then I drove thru town and some of the KNOWN bumps and ruts were a little more pronounced. (nothing uncomfortable, just more firm)

The real difference is in wheel control over rough roads. The car feels a LOT more planted!

Default C6 Z06 ( late production 2007)

I have to add the your comment , that the ride height on all three of C5es ( both 2000 FRC and 2001 Z06 with unaltered OEM ride height) have late production model 2007 C6 Z06 shocks all round. The max difference was 3/8" and that was remedied by cutting the top seated base bushings in half. ( fact is that all three have this slight modification).

The 2001 Z rear shocks at 24,000 were less than desirerable, but the C6 Z06 shocks are firm and predictable. Plus the C6 shocks are cheaper ( less expensive)

I have the 04z shocks and c6z51 sway bars...they're a great combo and I really love the way she drives...handles and corners amazingly better than stock FE1.

If you're running the run-craps on your rims...get rid of them too. They're hard as a rock and heavy. Most people don't realize that tires are a huge part of the handling.

Z06's didn't come with runflats. Hopefully he didn't put them on himself.
