Cam Questions???
I would probably be looking to do a cam only swap because I don't have oodles of money at the moment. Will I see good gains from a cam only swap ? I do plan to get long tube headers and heads in the future, but probably not for another year or so. Is it worth it to make the cam swap now or should I just hold off on it?
Am I thinking about all of this the right way? Any advice would be great?
Thanks, Matt

Just to do a cam swap normally means, new valve springs and pushrods. To do it more proper, you should change out the timing set while your there, and replace the oil pump. This does not include the gaskets, bolts, etc. More than likely, you will also need a tune. If its an auto car, probably going to need a stall as well.
Id say hold off until you can do it complete, with at least headers and all the above mentioned parts. Then a cam swap and good tune can net you up to 50 rwhp or more.

Another ? I looked at a couple cam swap packages at shops and what not and was wondering if there was any way to gather all the items cheaper and then just get it installed at a shop. Is it reasonable to think that I could find a camp, pushrods, valve springs, etc. used from forum members and what not? Would I be sacrificing performance by doing that?
The problem with doing a cam only on a budget is that you will need a tune if its a good sized cam. That can set you back $500 at the min.
Normally, the upgrade route is, CAI, Headers then onto heads/cam or FI.
Not to say that the cam is not a good deal. But, I'd rather suggest going to the track and having fun with it at a HPDE and find out what it can really do stock
