I have a 2000 with the base suspension and active handling control. I'm interested to know from anyone who has upgraded their factory shocks to C5 Z06 shocks if there are any precuations during installation, or can you just install them and go?

No "precautions". The installation is pretty straightforward. They're (strongly) gas charged of course, so it's helpful to have several strong zip-ties on hand to keep them compressed until you get them in position and be SURE you have the car high enough to loosen/tighten the rear lower shock bolts. 130 lbft is a lot and you need to have plenty of leverage. That torque setting btw, is not unique to the Z06 shocks.
If you can get them, the C6Z06 shocks are a great upgrade and are less expensive (~$250/set). Unfortunately, our forum vendor, Gene Culley is on a brief hiatus...
