I just purchased a 2A battery charger/maintainer and it came with three removeable hookup cables; normal battery clamps, permanent battery terminals and a 12 Volt cigarette socket plug.
My question is this; Are there any possible problems with using the 12V cigarette socket plug for maintaining my battery? In other words, could this negatively affect any of my cars electronics?
The reason that I would like to use this option is so that I wouldn't need to open my hood everytime I want to put the battery on the charger. I know that CTEK also offers the cigarette plug option but it is sold separately.
Anyone? I know that it may seem like a stupid question normally, I wouldn't ask it. But, these cars are so heavily electronic that I want to be sure that sending voltage through the cigarette socket will not negatively affect the various onboard computer systems.
My Black & Decker came with these also. There was a warning in the manual NOT to use the cigarette adapter for "long term" charging. It didn't say why.
Do not try to CRANK the engine with a LOW battery and have the charger hooked up. The CTEC Charger has a lower current than then CIG LTR fuse but, just charging it thru that port should be fine.
