I have a 2003 in Mil Yellow. I need to replace and paint the fender. I have done some research and this color is hard to match? I have heard that you apply it over a white base and also over a gray base.
I had my roll bar painted MY. They started with a primer reddish grey. NOT even close. WAY off. I heard white is best. The chance of a good match is SLIM. Different light show My in different ways. A gallon of 2 part MY was $400.00 and does not cover very well.

Has anyone had success?
I have three different Mil Yellows on my car.
matching is almost impossible, unless you paint your whole car.
If you have any wax on your car it will make it worse.
some Dawn dish detergent in warm water will strip any wax off, which must be done before painting.
The paint wil be close and in most case you will never see it. But once in a while in differnt light you will see the difference,
this is why it is important to blend the paint together.
Take your car to a shop that does corvette body work is very important.
heard the trick is the clear coat.... there is some tint added to it that most painters neglect.. Im pretty sure I read that on here or another Vette sight recently
I head the "rumor" about a tinited clear also. I wonder how I find out for sure?
I asked the local chevy dealer body shop and they did not say anything about tinted clear coat. As matter of fact they said they use a tinted primer sealer which doent make sense to me.
I agree the paint is almost impossible to match. I had a few panels painted on my car 1-2 years ago. They looked pretty close at the time but as others have mentioned the color changes significantly depending on the light source. Today the color diffierence is much more noticeable. I supsect due to differences in fading of the different types of paint and clear used.
Mil Yellow is a three stage paint. That's why it was an extra cost option. Here in Canada it added $1,000 to the price.
