Default Issues With Disconnecting Battery

I have disconnected the battery on my 04 Z06 to do some mods on the car over the winter, are there any known issues with the electrical equipment that I should be aware of? I had to replace a radio on my Monte Carlo once and after having it unlocked at the dealer they told me that if the car lost battery power for any reason the radio would lock again.

There shouldn't be, I do it every winter. Did you ever enter the lock code in the radio?

If the theftlock is activated your radio will lock. Its easy to unlock using the code. If you dont have a code PM me and I'll look up the info on where to get the code. You may also lose the memory settings. Other than that no dramas.

Bought the car last year, so I am not sure if a code was ever used. Is that something that would show up right away or over a period of time?

If the theft lock is activated there wil be an indicator on the radio itself that says LOC.

This is ll in the owner's manual.

Owners manual link!

You will also set some DTCs which will be reported as history. No big deal. You can clear them easily.

I also disconnect my battery every winter..no issues. Only thing that I find needing resetting is the clock. Other than that no issues.

I would also recommend to once every month or so to hook up the battery to a battery tender/charger to maintain & preserve battery life.

This way when you reinstall in spring you have 100% juice to start up.

Make sure that you secure the battery when you put it back in. Mine worked itself loose after a few months, and for a while I thought I had a suspension issue cause every time I turned Right or Left I heard a "knock" sound. I could also "FEEL" the knock when I turned. It was just the battery sliding back and forth.....

The latest fix for this is a lighter adapter sold at most auto parts retail stores that utilizes a regular 9 volt household type battery. This back feeds the system and maintains your settings. Not sure if it would last an entire winter though......

That little 9 VDC battery will only last about 30 min before it poops out.
