I am trying to remove the harmonic balancer bolt. I used a 1/2 inch impact gun to no avail. I even purchased a new 650 lb-ft impact gun and still did not remove it. I am thinking about using a propane torch to heat the pulley. This is on a C5 Z06. Any thoughts or suggestions?
never had a problem holding the flywheel and having the car in like 4th gear with the e brake on very tight with just a 1/2" rachet and a small breaker bar...all you sissies and your impacts...plus i dont like the thought of all the pounding on that bolt being that its in the cranks with all those nice bearings in the bottom end...its not even that difficult to break loose with the method i just said...man up guys!
I think the bolt is 23mm...use 1/2 breaker bar and I put a 4 foot length of copper pipe I had laying around over the breaker bar....car in 4th gear (hand brake on) and slow steady pressure....Good Luck

That's a cool tool for A/Ts, but not really applicable in this case. I used a std. 1/2" ratchet with half a jack handle over the end. There's locktite on the bolt, so it breaks loose kind of softly. It does take some muscle, though. BTW. a 15/16" socket fits perfectly.
Apply some HEAT to the bolt head and heat the head to loosen the the RED LOCKTITE on the bolt threads. Once the locktite is warm/hot, loosening the bolt will be easier.
Once the bolt is out, heat the damper hub to about 150 deg before you crank it off with a puller and you will be amazed how much easier it is to remove.
Thanks everyone. Screw the impact wrench. No substitute for a four foot cheater pipe and breaker bar. Didn't think I would have enough space but it worked fine.
