How much current should my c5 electrical system drain from the battery for the first 30 minutes or so after the ignition and all accesories and lights are turned off. I was reading 1.87 amps then it cuts back. Is this correct?
Seems a little high. It should be 20ma or less from what Bill Curlee has posted in his Electrical stickey.. Have you tried pulling fuses and relays after the BCM goes into sleep mode (usually about 15 minutes)? Do you have any aftermarket stuff that might be adding a drain? ie GPS or IPOD or such that is wired before the ignition switch?
Probably better to pull relays/fuses before the BCM enters sleep mode.....especially if removing from the passenger footwell fusebox.
How much should the BCM draw before going into sleep mode?
Last time I checked mine, it was right around 2 amps before sleep mode, so 1.8 sounds right. In your case, 40 mA is still high, and it should not take 45 min to enter sleep mode.
When you first connect the amp meter you may see 8 amps. Thats because the head light motors can jog and reapply tension to the down position. That only last for a quick second. Then it falls to around 2 amps and quickly drops to less than 1 amp. It takes mine around 7-8 mins to drop down to sleep mode .02 amps.. Thats what GM designed. Some models may see a slight bit more or less but,,,that the average. If your seeing a lot more,,,something isn't dropping off line like it should.
There are tons of post on this very topic. Ive answered at least 20 and listed 5-6 things to check.
