I have a 6 speed 97'. Only 32K miles. I get the chattering noise in 1st. I have been told it is normal and is the throw out bearings. It also does it while backing up in my driveway, slight incline.
Is this really normal? It's kind of embarrassing for such a highend car.
Would doing a fuid change help? Amsoil maybe???

If you are getting the noise just while first letting out the clutch and if it is gone once the vehicle is moving, than yes, this is normal, and in fact your manual talks of it.

Stock clutch? Does the car shake or vibrate a little when the "chattering" starts? If so, not normal.
Yeah, the clutch is stock. It is just a noise in 1st and goes away once I get rolling a bit with the clutch all the way out. In reverse, no noise unless I'm backing uphill or on an incline like my driveway. I have to feather the clutch a bit to back up slow as I have to get close to a fence so I can open my drivers door. The car will make the noise and vibrate/shake a little bit while I'm doing it.
I find it odd that a car that sells for what these did new and are the caliber which they are, have a transmission that is noisy. Do the C6 manuals do it too?
Sounds like clutch chatter.. Could be something on the clutch facing or just wear but the fix is replacement.. If you can live with it, drive it until you're ready to replace.. Pretty much no other fix..

Yup. It happens on a lot of aftermarket clutches, but it's not normal on a stock one.
If it is the "normal" throw-out noise, it is quite NORMAL. In fact, my 94 Trans Am GT did it as well. Just get used to it......nothing you can do about it at all.
