Bill, I have a different issue. My entire dash does not power up when I start the car, no gauges, no speedo, no tach…nothing. But, the car starts fine, runs fine, no issues. Where do I start to repair myself or can I even attempt to fix this? Thanks!

Default thanks for the info

Thanks for the excellent information. I had my cluster removed; we just placed a temporary ebay purchased unit in there. However, I'd like to keep the original with the correct milage. I can't tell from your photos the unit on the left has a burned-out area. I'm sure that was the bad one?
Also, do you think its' possible that the small inverter VFD board can be fixed without getting another? We have electricians in the area. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE If you're near your that same shop, please ask if they have another one of those parts. I'm far away from home these days and would gladly send you money via paypal to have that shipped to me. I have a 2005 base model. I'll take mine apart this weekend and see if I can send you a photo! Great job! I hope I can return the expertise someday.
Thanks Harv

Well last week my DIC (Driver Information Center) died, so I did a little troubleshooting and took my IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) out of the car and saw that the inverter for the VFD had failed. Went to a local Corvette recycler and purchased an inverter board from a parts cluster for $25.00. It was worth a shot that this would fix my problem as the alternative was an IPC refurb for around $500.00 or so. Well the part worked and I am back in order, so if anyone's DIC stops working this fix may work for you. A brief pictorial below.

A broken DIC makes me sad :-(

IPC removed from the car.

Main lighting inverter and back cover removed from IPC.

Failed inverter on the left, "new" one on the right.

Yeah I can read my mileage again, DIC repaired.

Unfortunately this is the only way I could get this part is second hand, if anyone knows any different please chime in.

Time for a beer, electronics this week have been something else for me, first this and then my TV bulb was shot, I have made my financial sacrifice to the electronic gods this week, I'm done.[/QUOTE]

Great job researching and repairing your IPC. Glad to see that you are back on the road.

Anyone that needs good quality, reliable and guaranteed obsolete or desired used Corvette parts for any year, I personally and highly recommend checking out VETTENUTS. (FORUM SPONSOR). He has always gone above and beyond to provide quality used parts. The owner Marc is a great guy to work with!

How did you know it was bad? How do you test it?
