I notice some threads about removal of I think pups, cats, pre-cats or whatever and have no idea what that means. My questions are:
1. Will it make the exhaust louder?
2. How much louder?
3. What exactly has to be removed or cut?
4. Will it still pass all the inspections?
5. Would you recommend this for a Borla Stinger?
Please ad your comments as well. Always appreciative. :seeya

1. Yes
2. Much
3. The cat is replaced with a piece of pipe
4. Probably not
5. NO. The Stinger is already pretty loud
Removing the pups (do '02's have pup's??) would be okay for you, but I wouldn't remove the cats with your concerns, unless you went to a high-flo cat. LG has Randoms for about $200 a piece I think. They would increase and deepen the sound some, and increase air flow, probably bringing your TQ up some. I wouldn't expect any HP gain. When I pulled my cats on my H/C car (with Belanger headers), I picked up 1/2 HP and 17 TQ.
Pre-cats, sometimes called pup cats, are the smaller cats located right after the manifold. I didn't think the 02 still had them but haven't been paying that much attention either. If you have them and are not going to do a long tube header (which would necessitate removing them) you might look at gutting them. This would leave them in place but non functional, increasing the probability of passing a visual inspection. I don't think this would result in substantial increase in volume (as removing your main cats would.)
Is it not loud enough as it is? I wouldn't remove the MAIN CATS as you won't pass the visual inspection here in Texas. Having said that, only you know how loud you want it.:)

I disagree on items 2 and 4. Mine were removed and I noticed no significant increase in cabin noise- we're talking subjective here, only a decibel meter will truly answer your ?. I also think my car WILL pass emissions, I really hope JW is wrong on this one for obvious reasons.

I believe John is talking about main cats, not the pup cats.

Yes, I was referring to the main cats, not the pups.
