Default Header studs alternative

Just wanted to share some info regarding header studs. If you don't really want to spend the extra $100 on ARP header studs, GM makes some for I believe the 4.3L V6. The part number for the studs is 11589154 and they are just under $2.00 a bolt (come in packs of 5). I had some metric nuts laying around so I'm just using those. I believe the size of those is M8-1.25.

Have you found that the header STUDS are better than the bolts?? I use to own a turbo Volve and it had manifold STUDS. Please let me know what your expierencies are between studs and bolts.

Sounds like a potential up grade.

Bill: I haven't installed them yet, but the main reason behind me going to studs was simply for ease of installation. In the 16 months I have had my LG longtubes I have had them in and out about 10 times haha. Plus I live in California where I have to swap my stock manifolds back on for smog. I will let you know how they work out.

i put them on my car when i rebuilt the motor.

WELL worth the money. You can slide the gasket on then put the header up and get a nut started. No messing around trying to get the gasket to stay on the bolt and then hold the header while threading it in place!!!

$100 is salty for what they are, but they were worth it in my mind.

All you neeed is 4 studs, Ace hardware black anodized are hardened to over grade 8.
Only a couple of bucks, use in front and rear bolt holes only works perfect.

The only thing I dont like about they black is they rust. The ARP polished are spendy no doubt but they look sharp and if that is important to a person its something to think about.

Mine have only been on for ~6 months and no rust yet I don't think they will because as I noted they are black anodized.

Great suggestion ! I think I will give the Ace stud / bolt combo a try when I put my headers back on.

Okay to use anti-seize on the studs, nuts and bolts ?
