Got her open and out came a birds nest! The front coupling destroyed it's self bit the drive shaft is great. The bolts going through the coupling snapped swell so I will replace bearings couplings and bolts all around. She'll be up and running again as soon as I get the new parts in the mail
yeah i was looking at those ears and they do have some dammage, im an airframe mechanic so ill take them into work and xray the ears to see if there are any cracks... otherwise im going to reuse them... on another note does anyone know the part number for the 10mm bolts that go into the coupler? i need all new ones...
Mine is a 2000 with 440 RWHP, I am adding 3.90 gears to mine in about a week, I think I am going to pull mine apart and replace my bushings, I would hate for this to happen to me. What base are you at?
Yeah it's deffinatley a good idea. I have taken the car apart before but never the tq tube.... Never crossed my mind that there are rubber bushings in it... But lessons learned now anytime I do a clutch swap I'm going to replace these guys too
Great thread, great pictures. I'm getting ready to do a trans/clutch change out so I'm going to go ahead and change out the couplers. I probally won't change out the bearings. Thanks for the pictures and the bolt part number.
While you are waiting for parts take a good look at your CV joints in the half shafts. We are doing a clutch and coupler job right now and when we went to put everything back together we could not get the upper control arms in place. It appeared that the half shaft was too long, and since we were pretty sure it hadn't grown, we pulled it out and found that the ***** in the CV joint were loose and rolling around inside. I am sure they were getting added abuse from the coupler failure. Our bolts did not bread and the car could be driven although it did have plenty of slop and knocking. We thought we would be done today but now are looking for a half shaft.
