Default Dilema

I am trading exhaust with a forum member. So I lifted the Vette and I noticed a level 2 leak coming from my diff. Level 2 being that its starting to form a drop on the diff itself, but haven't seen anything on the floor yet.

It is a C5 ZO6 diff with upgraded clutch packs and hardened output shaft a nice diff. So should I rebuild it or should I go with a new RPM or such diff.

If you guys want pics I can post them tomorrow.

TIA guys

Verify where it's leaking from ... could just be the vent puking a little oil, which is common on these differentials.

Why rebuild if it may only need a seal?

Shes starting to get a little whine with the push of the gas pedal so it might be that time.

Thanks for serving brother!

Clean it off and take her for a spin. Inspect after the drive. It will give you a very good idea where the leak originates from.

Your DIFF operates under a slight vacuum when cooling down. The vacuum helps keep the fluid in the diff. The vent at the top has a ball check that allows air OUT and none in:

Here are a couple of very cool post on the diff:

- C5, Its Go Time, Output Shaft Install - Left and Right : http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-t...post1573404441

- C5 RAGTOPWS6, Differential UP-Grade; http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-g...-z06-guts.html

If you need to replace a seal,, its in there!

That my friend is a Corvettes at Carlisle part for sale.

When I go to Carlisle, I always take pictures of stuff for this exact reason. Show people where stuff is and what things look like.

Yea, it was rode hard and put away wet!!!

It seems odd that it has one of the most common of C5 problems, but has a built rearend. Wouldn't the owner that had the rearend done, fix the all too familiar rear seal leak?
