Thoughts on fuel additives

IMO gas additives are not worth the cost as long as you use a quality name brand gasoline that already contain additives (Shell, Exxon, etc.). Generic discount gas stations buy fuel based on price...you may get a quality name brand gas with additives or "el cheapo" with little or no additives to keep your engine clean.
Case in point: I owned a 2006 Charger SRT8 6.1 Hemi that I always used Exxon gas in. A friend of mine owned one just like mine but he always bought gas from the discount stations.
When I traded my car he wanted the PP heads I had on mine so we switched prior to trading. The PP heads had been on my car for about 15K miles. His engine had about 17K miles on it.
The intake ports on my heads looked brand new. No deposits at all.
The intake ports on his heads were coated with a "gummy" yellowish film.
The only additives I use are for octane boost when I have a tune that requires more octane (I had 3 tunes on my SCT for the Viper truck, 93 octane, 97 octane and 100 octane). The two brands I use are Lucas and Torco. Both are proven by 3rd party testing to add octane "numbers" (not "points" like most additives do).
Octane "number" equals whole numbers like 3.0....."points" equal tenths like .3. Points are what most boosters are actually claiming. When you use boosters like STP that claim up to 5 points increase you are actually only increase 93 octane gas to 93.5 octane.

BG-44 is one of the best products of its type on the market. I personally have made it a habit of adding a bottle of Techron or other quality fuel injection cleaner to my EFI cars whenever I do an oil change. For me that ends up being once or twice a year. I do keep a couple cans of BG-44 on hand for certain family members that don't believe in preventative maintenance...

Good luck... GUSTO

Regarding the use of Techron...
It appears to come in 12 oz containers and 20 oz containers. What's the recommendation on frequency of use, and dosage of ounces per tank of gas?
Can it be used "too much"? I.E., is there any downside other than what some might call un-necessary expense if it's used, say, every 1000 miles?
I also see Techron Fuel System Cleaner (67740), and Techron Concentrate Fuel System Cleaner (67740-C). What the difference, and is there a preference?

The best preventative method for keeping your intake tract and combustion chambers clean is to use good quality fuel (top-tier) and open it up every now and then.

I'm pretty sure it takes key words from the post and that how they show up.
