Yeah, I saw that. Mine gets about 26 at 80 w/4:10's and 6 speed. Maybe he has headers which can give better mileage and a good tune. Runflats also give better mileage than my non runflat GSD3's.

I had 4.11s on a base 6 speed (M6 gearing) and liked them

Now with the M12 in my car with 3.42 (like having an M6 with 3.90s) I like it too.

You can't go wrong with either, both will make the car feel a bit lighter, more snappy.

I usually cruise at the speed limit (65 around here) or maybe 5 over, that that's it. No need to attract extra attention.....

I always heard the M12 was like one step up on gears - never heard 3.42's = 3.90 with M6....

Not rying to hijack, just didnt want to start a seperate 4:10 thread.
With A z06, stay factory gears, you have the MN12

I have a stock motor 03 Z with long tubes. With my stock 3:42 gear, ran in the 11's

Car came stock w/3:42's. I installed a H/D 3:90 a year or so ago & could hardly tell the difference in performance/seat of the pants.

First time I got on it with the newly installed 3:90's I knew right away that I should have jumped to the 4:10's

I heard it was very costly to have 4.10 installed

At the time I purchased my H/D 3:90, I could have bought a H/D 4:10
for the same price. I can kick myself now!

The 4:10's shouldn't cost much more if any than a 3:90 .

What 4.10s are you guys using? Motive gear? Any whinning or strange sounds? Is it difficult to replace 3.42 to 4.10s?

How much less would top speed be?

I gotta ask. Have you ever had your car at top speed? I'd bet 98% of all vette owner's never drive any faster than 120.

Don't fear the 4.10 gears. They cost the same as any other gear change.

Motive gear seems to be the main provider of gears for our cars.

I had my car at 155mph a few dozen times . But this is not my main driving style. I will be willin to trade off, but was curious. Do you have a seat of your pants feel with these gears?

What about the cam though? Car seems a little boggy sometimes doing a 3-4 shift. I dont care about top speed, I do want the crisp throttle response that I know is there.

Another quick question, do you finished the 1/4 mile in 4th or 5th? Do you need to raise the rev limiter? How much ? 6500rpm?

4th gear - depending on your tire and driving abilities, you will have to raise your limiter or get a taller tire.

On a cool day in November of 2009, I went to a track rental. My first run I hit the limiter that was set at 6400. I had my tuner raise it to 6600. No more problem.

I was using 25.7" tall Hoosier drag radials and trapping 119 - 120.

I had 4.10's with a M12 tranny and hated it. To much gear for street driving and a real PIA in traffic.

I think the 4.10's are a good fit with the MM6 tranny, but not the M12 unless you're really into drag racing.

Yup, lighter wheels than stock, lowered, toyos with about 34 lbs of air, headers, and great tune! oh and not to heavy on the pedal to get to 80

You have to kinda work to get that with 3:42's; I'm doubting thats the 4:10's are still getting that good of mileage. Also, I'm pretty sure theres some tuning work with regard to tuning for the MPG to be accurate when gears, injectors, FI or a cam has been installed. Otherwise the PCM still uses the tables for stock gears, injectors ect; I've seen this somewhere else in the scan and tune section I believe.
