Default Trouble with Build

Started the install of some new AI Heads. When she was apart, we noticed abnormal lifter and cam wear. All 16 lifters were grooved as well as the lobes on the cam. The Cam has less than 5k on it. I think it may be an issue with the cam hardning. So it looks like a new cam and lifters are in order. Since thats the case, going to put in a larger cam.

Cam was small XER cam 224/228 588/581 114+4 LSA. Have you seen this type of issue before? I saw it with my own eyes so I know it true. Just wondering what can cause this when all 16 lifters show abnormal wear. Just trying to learn.

A few years back Comp cams had a batch of poorly hardened lobes, IIRC. I like the cam you're taking out. Just about right for a street car. If you mostly street drive, I'd go no larger than about a 228/234, and keep lift under .600 for longer spring life. Get the best springs you can.

Curious what springs you are running when this happened.

Bottom end is fine. No issues there at all.
