Before buying my C5 I did a lot of research about modding F-bodies. It seems that the gains from headers/intake on an LS1 Corvette are substantially higher than those offered by similar/same mods on LS1 F-bodies. What is the reasoning behind this? I have heard of people gaining 25RWHP on a C5 from LTs, and another 15-20RWHP from an intake. I know that the C5 features true dual exhaust, which the F-bodies do not, but why are the gains so much more? Or are my numbers incorrect?
F-bodies had LS1s Most corvettes that are moded have LS6s. (Z06) Difference with there to start with.
Better flowing heads and intake
different cam
LS6 block is stronger( thinker walls) and the oiling and coolant gallies are better flowing then the LS1 block.
I think the difference is minor, and easily accounted for by the rest of the exhaust system, after the headers. Just a guess, I've never owned a late model F-body.
The F-bodies dyno higher to begin with due to less parasitic loss. Headers you will see 20-30rwhp with a tune, LS6 intake about 5rwhp. Intake... about 0 on the dyno. On the track though, you'll see a good 2-3 tenths drop in ET. So basically with headers, vararam, LS6 intake, and tune, you're looking .60 drop in ET which is nice. But then again it all has to do with the driver.
