Engine noise
When I fire up my car the engine rattles, clicks, knocks, pecks, squeeks, etc. By the time the engine warms up it is quiet making no unusual noise.
I have owned a lot of chevy V8 cars and know there is always some start up odd sounds that last maybe a minute, but this thing sounds really bad for several minutes. When I started it up the day after buying it I was scared to death thinking I had really been screwed but in 5 minutes it is smoothing out and when warm sounds good.

Personally I have about all of them myself. They seem to quiet down after a bit though so it doesn't bother me too much.
Three years ago, just after I bought the car I went through the belt issues. Now it's thrown off a Gatorback. I put the other belt back on and most the squeaks that were never really solved the first time are back. I'm just going to change anything that hasn't been changed. Water pump and one idler.
I haven't answered your question but let you know you're not alone. There are many thread on noises these cars make.
Edit: While searching for a car for my grandaughter I made a new rule for myself. I'll NEVER test drive a car that's already warmed up! Then, I drive it a couple of times. (Some check engine lights don't come back on until after a few drives)

If you have not done so, change the oil. Some times engines make a bit too much noise when they oil is low unitll they get warmed up.
SBC have normal piston slap. Just the way it is.
