Default Cam question?

Recently bought my first C5. The previous owner provided a list of quite a few mods that have been done to the vehicle. Listed is a Comp Cam as 221/558/112, however I cannot find a Comp Cam with that grind. Anybody know if Comp Cams makes a cam with that grind? Just trying to figure out what series and what performance attributes are associated.

Lots of Comp cams are custom grinds. It there's a serial # stamped/etched on the end, it may be possible to contact Comp for specifics? If you're unsatified with the performance or drivability of your cam, you can always get a new cam that you know all the particulars.

No problems with the cam. Just wondering about the design characteristics (i.e. where the power curve is, driveability, and other recomendations for exhaust, heads, etc.).

Have a dyno tune done on the car. That's a good place to start. It's a thrill to watch anyway.

Yea, that is in the plan when I get a chance. Very curious to see what she pulls. The previous owner estimates between 525 and 550 bhp. Curious to see what it actually produces at the rear wheels.

Yea, heads were done by Agostino Racing Engines. Ported, poished, and 2.05 intake/1.60 exhaust. Also has LS6 intake, Callaway big bore throttle body, Vararam system, and a set of Belanger Tri-Y headers.

What would you expect with this cam and supporting mods?

Difficult to say without full list of mods, head flow rate and tune info.

221 cam is small by todays standards.

430-440Bhp/365-375rwhp range is my best guess.

Take it to a shop and chassis dyno it.

Thanks for the estimate. I will eventually get it out on the Dyno, just not sure when. Previous owner created custom badging showing 525hp. Would like to at least be able to create that at the crank. Not one to boast on things that are not true. So may need to add some additional mods to be true to the badging.

I also would guess about 450HP at the engine. Mine makes 470 at the engine and i have a TSP 228R cam and mild heads. That's a smaller cam from the basic specs you gave. With a 112LSA like you have listed does it chop a little at idle or is it relativly smooth? Mine chops alot when it's cold and just a little less when it's warm

Idle is a little rough when first started. It does settle out quite a bit once warmed up, but I still wouldn't say it's smooth.

OK, dug through the documentation that came with the car and found the original Spec Card.

wow yes with what you just listed i would be willing to put your car with around 400-410rwhp. That cam is small in todays standards of cams. That cam isnt much larger than whats in a stock 02-04Z being .550 .551. you just have a more aggressive LSA.

With all other mods listed, I'd say 420 RWHP, which would put approx. 500 BHP in your motor. That's being optimistic, and all components are working well together, and well tuned. Not too shabby!

Just for comparison.... I have stock LS6 heads, LS6 intake, with a 224/230 113 LSA. I put down 416 rwhp and 392 rwtq on a Mustang Dyno. Hope that helps in your estimates.

The cam was designed for those ported heads. Low lift for valve train reliability and constant 4000 to red line use.
