First I do not need a motor yet. I've got a friend here in SC that offered a supposidly good running 6.0 with everything on it computer and all for $600. Should i buy it an hang on to it for later? Whats differant from the 5.7 in my 99 FRC other than the CI"s. how about the intake and TB are they useful on a performance motor? I have no idea what it came out of but he says it a 6.0 and he's pretty dependable. Advise? thanks

I think having the complete engine in hand before needing it is a great plan. Take your time, shop for the best price on parts and build it up into a great engine. Then, when you install it, sell your old engine to recover a good chunk of the cost of building up the replacement.
is there some poor guy in SC with a "missing" 6.0?
What sounds too good to be true usually is.
I've known this guy for 25 years, he said he bought it out of a wrecked truck. I have no reason to believe anything different. I will have the engine in my possession this weekend, if anyone hears of someone missing one forward them my email. bracketshark@sc.rr.com
We can check the #'s together. I don't want anything "warm" in my possession, I've got a VTX1300R motorcycle of my own missing, and know how that feels.
Thanks for all of the advise. Steve
I bought a well used 6.0 for $500 but it didn't include the computer. I had it bored .030" and stroked it to 408" and put it in my Nova. Should have it running in the next few weeks. The 4.00" bore of the LQ4 will allow you better choice in cylinder head (i.e. LS3) for some serious airflow and more power. I bought my forged Callies rotating assembly from Texas Speed after doing quite a bit of shopping around. Have fun with the build.
Well I'm disappointed, The 6.0 motor turned out to be a 5.3 instead. My buddy told me to start with it was a 6.0 but when I got there he showed me the 5.3 markings so I know he wasn't "trying" to s**t me. Anyway should I still buy it? He said the block is the same just the stroke is different, I don't know enough about these motors to know whats right or wrong. He did say the motor is supposed to have ~80,000 miles. What do you guys think. Thanks
5.3 is not a bad engine... I believe it will have the Active Fuel Management system on it. Which I think means it drops the two front cylinder while just cruising on the highways. Put your foot to the floor and it will come alive I can tell you that foe sure!!! I had one in my Grand Prix GXP, it was extremely fast!!! I just didn't like it... Because... Well... It was a Grand Prix!!!
I won't be going down in CI's. I had some bad info telling me the 5.3 and 6.0 blocks were the same bore just the stroke was different. I have found out different now. I will not be purchasing this motor.
