How do you know it's overheating? Does coolant blow from the reservoir? Indication? A flashing check engine light is a misfire, so you may have a loose wire at the plug or coil, burned wire, damaged, etc.

what I meant when I said overheating was that I never seen my temp gauge reach over 240 and above, I'll check on the spark plug wires when I get home, another question is will the spark plug wires cause my car temp rising or it just might be a loose or burnt wire? thanx for the info

I think I need a decoder ring.....

So, does that mean you have never seen the coolant temp higher than 240, and it is rising above that now? .......or .....you are seeing temps as high as 240?

Well, you need to answer Lucky's questions, but I have to say I've never seen or heard of spark plug wires being the cause of over heating of an engine. This is a new one for me!!

SPARK PLUG WIRES have pretty much NOTHING to do with an engine overheating....

You need to check your radiator opening on the underside of the car for obstructions, trash, grass, dirt, sand etc........

There’s a ONE INCH space between the radiator and AC Condenser that fills up with dirt and grass. Take the top plastic cover off the top of the radiator/condenser and make sure that the area between the two is clean and debri free.

I use a garden hose to flush the radiator. I flush it from the front and from the back. You will be amazed at the dirt/sand that comes out.

Make sure that your cooling fans are operating properly.

Remember,,,210-220 is a completely NORMAL operation temp. On real hot days in traffic, you can easily see 230 and no damage will happen IF, your cooling system is functioning correctly and is operating at the correct pressures.

with everyone else.

Sounds like you have two separate problems. If you pull your codes I'm betting you'll see P0300 stored which is a generic misfire code. If you want to know specifically which cylinder(s) is misfiring (if a visual inspection of the wires doesn't help you) go to an autoparts store and get them to hook up an OBDII scanner (usually done for free) to get the specific cylinder. P0301 = Cylinder 1 P0302 = Cylinder 2 etc.

For the cooling issue; the only thing I'd humbly add to Bill's advice is that you could also have air in your cooling system. I had that issue once and I had to "burp" my system several times before I got temps back down to normal.

Here's the burp procedure:

Start w/ a cold engine
Remove rad. cap
Idle for 1 minute
Install cap
Cycle RPM from idle to 3000 until coolant reaches 210F
Shut off engine
Remove cap very slowly
Start engine
Idle for 1 minute
Install cap
Cycle RPM from idle to 3000 until coolant reaches 210F
Shut off engine
Remove cap very slowly
Top off

This link: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-t...y-come-on.html may be helpful in ensuring that your fans are operating properly.

I agree with checking fans, most of the time if car runs cool under driving then the rad. is doing its job but if it heats up at a stop then fan/fans are a problem.
