Default Starter differences between years?

Are there differences in starters between different years of C5s? I bought a new starter for my '02 Z06 and one of the mounting points seems much thicker on the new one. I don't see how it is going to bolt up. I called Napa and they told me the Bosch starter they sold me shows to be a direct fit in their system and if they order another it'll be the same. Has anyone else run into this problem, if so, what did you do?

There IS a difference and the newer version IS COMPATABLE with your car.
The new one with the thicker mounting pad (YES ITS MORE DESIREABLE!!) should have come with the longer fastener necessary to mount it on your engine It is detailed in Technical Bulliten BS0047 Revision Date 1/17/07

You can get that fastener from the stealership. Figure out why the parts store reman starter doesnt come with the longer fastener. I got my new starter from AUTOZONE. It was the FIRST DESIGN and no changes were necessary. If you have to purchase the longer bolt, no big deal!!

I guess your thinking " Man,, How does that guy pull that off the top of his head??

I just replaced my starter and have all the paper work still on my desk!

That's great news! Thank you for this. I will try it again once I get home as the car is still torn apart.

And when did the new starter come out for the c5 or did it come out in 07 when the notice did?

I believe that its another platform LS Starter but NOT a C5 OEM starter

Ok that was what I was thinking because the date you posted was 07, so what is so much better about the thicker starter?

Got the new one on there. Sounds completely different starting now. I hope this will fix my intermediate no starts but we'll see.

Yes I have heard your painful story a few times
I didnt think the fault was in the design of the starter though.

Heres the smoking gun caused by a defect in the intake runner!

The hydro lock caused the SHORT side of the starter to CRUSH and allowed the bolt on the LONG side to deflect and pop off that part. I found the part when I disassembled it.

I found a friggen General Dynamics Electric Boat Submarine Nuclear Welder GOD who was able to precision TIG weld it. Thanks Jim!!

Its better than new (he added some strengthening to that area. Heres a Vid of the engine start and run when I was checking out my new flywheel balance: "Click on the picture"

The camera does NOT do the open header sound justice! It will make your ears bleed~~~~~
