1st - hats off to you, not a lot of guys out there will tear into a car like you have - I salute you and toast you with a 1/2" ratchet drive!!
Yes, frustrating that some folks can put 250,000 miles and only change a battery, alternator & lightbulb or two.
Others aren't as lucky.......
All that being said, I have buddies of mine who own 911's, Mustangs, BMW's & Chargers and they all have had "issues".......the 2002 Porsche 911's issues are many, the BMW's are ELECTRICAL and are $$$$$$ to fix.
Keep us posted & hang in there,
Pick up a katech c5-r timing chain. While youre there if your block is already drilled for the timing chain damper you may also consider getting that from them as well.

Unless this is an engine that going to be hammered regularly on a road course or at the track,, the LS2 chain will be more than adequate. It’s a LOT better than the old LS1/6 chain. Sure there are much better chains but price may be a big factor in the selection choice!
Here the comparison between an LS2 chain (on the engine) and a used LS1/6 chain. Note the thicker links and if you look very closely, you can see the parting line in some of the rollers between each link. :
Just went through the same situation with my car after i put the top end back on (oil pump was off for a few days). Anyways turned out that the valve was stuck in the LS6 pump so i had to tear it all back down and replace the pump, problem solved in my case anyways.......hope that helps to clear it up a bit.
