I will post my .02 worth on the Stingers since we are by far the biggest seller of the Stinger system.

We have sold 96 systems to date ( I had Mike total the sales). We have received 0 emails (customers wanting to return the system), 0 emails on resonance and 0 returns on the Stinger system since its release. BUT, as many members know, we do not sell product for the sake of profit only. We ask the customer the important questions BEFORE we sell the product. If an owner of an auto is asking about the Stingers, we try and relate the BIG possibilty of the system resonating in his car. We may suggest Corsa or Bassani for the car instead. We know those systems will not be returned because of resonance.

We have installed at least 5 systems here in town with NO quality issues at all. The systems line up everytime, necessary hardware is included and instructions are there. Borla is doing an exceptional job as far as the Stingers are concerned. The only thing we would suggest to Borla is make more systems and faster! The Stinger system stays on backorder and thats hard on the dealer as no customer likes to wait!!!

I want to say, the Stinger does resonate slightly on the 6spd cars, I tested one of the first systems for Borla, just for the record.

Please email us direct if we can help with questions or concerns.

Nate

Since I hope to get this system one of thse days, I will probably ask one of my Corvette Forum neighbors to let me ride in his Stinger-equipped car. That way, I'll experience firsthand what has been mentioned. If I drive at 3500 rpm, it's briefly (getting ready to stomp on the gas), since cruising engine speed is normally at 2000 rpm or less.

Thanks for the info, Nate.

I had a MINOR problem with my Stingers, which I beleive at least one other has had (bought from LAPD, but I never informed them of the minor issue). The sections that clamp together were pretty much the same size, so they wouldn't slide in togeter. The Muffler side is sloted, and is suppost to go over the other piece. The Muffler side needed to be expanded a little. Exhaust shops have expanders that can do this in a matter of seconds, but I didn't have this tool avaliable. If you got your installed at a muffler shop you may have had the same problem, but they didn't tell you, its no big deal to them... probably consider it normal. As a "back-yard" installer, I just knocked out the pipe with a hammer, it comes back into shape with the clamp anyways. ITS REALLY NO BIG DEAL.

The Stingers themself are AWESOME, I couldn't imagine an exhaust any better. Fit and finish is tops, they sound great, and are really easy to live with. NO RESONANCE, but I don't go driving around at constant speed in lower than neccessary gears either. During my normal driving, its quiter with less resonance than my stock and B&B touring exhaust was. Step on it, and it sounds great.

I don't know why the "on the fence" buyers are conserned about any of this crap that has came up, its obvious that a stong majority are happy with them. Worst case, if you are one of VERY FEW owners that get a damaged system, just send it back and get another. Nate still sells them, he is an awesome vendor and person, and will take care of you if any quality issues come up.

My resonates very badly at 1500 rpms because I have a offroad X-pipe. So as long as I keep it over 60mph I'm ok. :D

For the above poster who "tried" or drives @ 2500 rpm's in 6th, you are lucky to be able to do so, (this is cruising, I presume) because I would be in jail for going what is it 120 mph or so ! I have the Stingers, and yes, as ANY system that increases your loudness level of the exhaust there is going to be some increase in resonance somewere in the rpm range. He is right the Stingers do have a 2500 and a 3500 "peak", but most people cruise in 6th, under 2000 rpm's, so for those no problem. If it is too loud for you going throught the gears, then a quiet Corsa may be best.

On the pipe misalignment, we found out that if you try to slide it straight on, tips facing as they should, it is very tight, but if you slide it on with the tips facing "down" or horizontally the pipe goes right on, twist it up into place while pulling out your back bumper to clear the hanger. Do not know why this is, but we had no problem with install, alignment, quality is excellent, sound is awesome.

As the person who started the last thread (that got deleted) I am still very interested in this topic. I think my fears of QC issues have been taken care of. Now, before I take the plunge, I would really like to hear the Stingers in person. Anyone have them in the DE or Southern NJ area? I would really appreciate a fellow forum member helping me out before I lay out the $$. Also, with LAPD not selling the Stingers anymore, is there anyone else (Nate did give me a good price) with the Stingers in stock for a fair price?

Matt, you will love everything about the Stingers. The sound and not to mention the fabulous looking dual cannons are sweeeeeet. As far as the thread that got deleted, it is old news and we are moving on :yesnod: I think Nate @ Xtreme has a fine price. Good luck and you will love them.

Whoops, I meant 1500rpm in 6th, 2500 rpm in 5th. In 6th it wasn't too bad, but still a drone, and I dislike cruising in 6th on our unpredictable beltway :).

As has been proven again and again, I'm an odd case, so take no heed of my experience unless you have a freaky resonating car like mine, i.e. if it resonates some with stock, it'll be worse with stingers on.

Mine have been on for over a month. No problems. Workmanship is outstanding. They sound great! The price was right, and dealing with Nate was a pleasure. What more could you ask for? Resonance...they are NOT your maiden aunt's Malibu, but they are certainly manageable and quieter than you would expect. Nail the throttle and they are DEFINITELY noticeable! Best damn $400 I've spent on a mod. :D

Well, I had a problem with them - stripped chrome on one of the tips. It wasn't that bad, but looks are important too, esp for a new system.

Took Borla about three weeks to repair the muffler.

Very interesting, this may be caused by oval pipes. Will keep it in mind when I get my Stingers. They are still on the way. Thanks for that information.

Hang in there Frederik...the wait is horrid, yet it will all be worth it when you hear them roar. Now are you going to be able to get away with that kind of exhaust in Germany?

It will definitely NOT pass our every two year technical inspection. So I decided to take it off for inspection and put it on after it. I´m used to this :D . My first car was a Mini Cooper with a Stinger similar exhaust in 1970.

When you get the Stingers installed you'll have to give an update on peoples reaction to such a wild exhaust. It isn't a mini cooper, that is for sure!
