Default Titanium Exhaust Help

Guys,

Got a C5Z with a C6Z/ZR1 Combo.

Problem now is, the mufflers won't fit because they need to be modified.

Anybody know a shop in Jacksonville, FL that can handle it? Thought I found a few but either they can't do the Ti weld or they don't have the piping for it.

Any help would be appreciated.

What is the problem?
Muffler size?
flanges?
Pipe size?
Bend Radius?

The ONLY Corvette that ever had Ti exhaust was the 2001-2004 ZO6. The C6 (any version) has/had aluminized steel exhaust.......

What are you trying to do???

It sounds like he has C6 mufflers that he's trying to HACK into a C5. Pretty funny if he is.

I too wasnt sure what he was talking about. Looking at his post history though, I get the impression he may have converted to the C6 rear driveline(trans/diff/cradle)? I wasnt aware this changed any dimensions enough to cause exhaust fitment issues.

What is the actual problem you are having? You cant get the Ti's installed? Or they are installed but with clearance issues? To install them requires the car to be VERY high(on a lift) or they wont snake through because they are one piece.

I guess thats what I get for posting right before I run off to work. Sorry guys. LOL. My bad.

My stock C5Z Ti won't clear the C6Z rear/cradle now...it needs to be modified.

I was looking for a shop with on hand Ti...which I haven't found...and a shop that can weld on Ti...which I have found.

I've basically decided to contact Vengeance at this point...

The length...I've read/been told that I need the pipes to be modified to fit over my C6Z rear now.

I've got a few shops that can weld up Titanium...but nobody that has that type of piping on hand. Hense the issue.

You're the man.

The piping needs to be modified to clear the cradle/rearend...I've got to have the stock Ti cut...section added to it so it'll clearance.

You might be better off going with an after market steel exhaust and modifying the steel tubing rather than going to the trouble of hacking up titanium, not to mention trying to find someone to weld it. You can always sell a stock Ti Z06 exhaust.

Lets try and stay focused here. I want to keep my Ti...I just want to modify it.

I just sent Vengeance an email...I'd hate to have the extra down time/shipping cost...but I'd rather it done correctly than have to half *** something.

I want to keep the Ti...just need it modified.

Vengeance got back to me and can't do it...so looks like I need Ti piping. Can anybody spec the info on the Ti piping so I can buy some to match?

Yes sir. I found a bit of info on google...but what I found was that there are several different types.

Hense why I was wondering now if somebody can give me all the details on the piping itself so I can order some extra and run it up to the shop...

I would love to see photos of the clearance issues caused by the TR6060 and C6Z diff.

If the tub is the issue, it will probably be cheaper and easier to cut and modify the tub rather than the Ti exhausts.

Think of it as doing a "tub" job for the exhaust pipes.

Just find a place on the muffler pipe thats not bent and use a dial caliper and get the following measurements"

ID, OD and wall thick of the pipe. That should be all you need to set the correct tubing on order.

Good luck on your project and PLEASE post some pictures on the before problem areas and the AFTER FIX!

While your doing Ti MODS,,,, you might consider doing the Ti muffler mod that makes the Ti muffler louder. It basically adds a small pipe from the main pipe to the inner muffler pipe.

Just a general note here:

Most guys that go with a C6Z Diff/Cradle appear to have already swapped to a Stainless exhaust, specifically mufflers/piping at some point.

IMO...which doesn't mean anything...there isn't a point in spending a ton of money on a muffler setup/piping for minimal gains AND THEN having to get it modified to fit.

The Ti is great...I want it...I want it quiet...light...so I'll do a little more leg work to get what I want. No biggie.

Also, I got ahold of RPM. They can't weld Ti at their shop. They know how to cut/bend for the C6Z Diff/Cradle setup but can't do this on the Ti. FYI

The only issue here is the Ti...if it was stainless this project would be complete.

I'm not modifying the "tub"...that wouldn't make sense at this time.

I want the Ti...just gotta do a little leg work. The tough part now is apparently finding the Ti. I can do that...just take a little time

Called my Uncle who has a dial caliper waiting on me...but before I go pick it up:

I got ahold of Timet...the company that supplied GM with the Ti originally...sales and tech are both helping me...they're tracking it down or an equivalent and calling me back today apparently. Once they find it, I'll buy it and my problem will be solved
