Default Tire Air Pressure

Is it normal for the air in my Goodyear Eagle F1 EMT tires to fluctuate as high as 33 pounds hot from 29 cold? Also, I have one tire that's about a half-pound off from the others when cold, but it's only showing 31 pounds when the rest are showing 33; is this normal too, or no? This is my first experience with run-flats and don't know much about them.

Thanks!

as far as tire pressure run flats are the same as any other tire. The answer to your fuirst question ( 29 t0 31psi) that's about normaL, dependent on the ambient temperature.
As for you second question, I'm sorry, I don't understand your concern. If one tire is 2 pounds off the others, just add 2 pounds of air to that tire.

The tires are going from 29 to 33, not 31. My concern about the other is that it's only about a half pound off cold, but changes to a 2 pound difference when hot, which is different from the gain in the other 3 tires. I know it's a minor concern, but still a concern nonetheless.

Sounds normal to me. As you drive the tires heat up and the pressure rises.

Nothing to worry about. My tires can all read exactly the same cold. I don't think they have ever all ended up rising to the same pressure hot.

That makes me feel better because I was worrying about uneven tread wear. Thanks.

Are you measuring the tire's pressure with a gage or relying on the TPMS? That is not a large varyance in pressure. I sincerily doubt you will experience measurable uneven tire wear from that small of a difference.

Good point.

I have a digital tire gauge that was calibrated in the "standards lab" where I used to work. I can get all of my tires at the exact same pressure with this gauge, yet the DIC generally doesn't read them all the same. They are, however, usually within a pound....

4 psi variation is quite normal.

As for wear, Im on my 3rd set of tires. The rears wear before the fronts. I've always run about 2 psi light but even so, the centers have worn out first.

My best advice is don't inflate over 30 psi.

I filled and gauge checked my tires (Goodyear RF's stock sizes) at 30 lbs all around and went for a ride with the top down and a screaming woman next to me telling me that I was going too fast. Upon my return., a short run of 40 miles at varying speeds and an ambient temp of 84, the tpms reading was 36 all around. When the air temp is lower the increase is lower. Don't worry what the TPMS says; just gauge your tires frequently depending on your driving habits and quit worrying about tire wear (that's one of the perks of Corvette ownership - perks for the many tire places to see a beautiful car and take a lot of your money)

TPMS until I can get down to Fry's for a replacement battery for the digital guage. My standard guage broke not too long ago and I keep forgetting to get another when I go to the parts store.

I suggest aiming at 30psi cold and monitoring things through the TPS. use a quality pressure gauge to set things right, then monitor for abnormalities.
