i have solid motor mounts. I want to replace the transmission mount. I found the OEM mount for cheap but i also found a solid transmission mount (looks like the oem mount) for cheap. i was wondering if solid motor mounts and solid trans mount is a good idea? or is it better to stick with the oem transmission mount? is anyone running solid mounts all round and if so what do you think?
I have a solid rear trans mount from VBP--It helps launch the car straighter and hit harder--While you're back there--you may want to also change the rear sway bar end links from plastic to the Z06 style metal ones---results are similar to a solid trans mount--Also both these mods make the car drive flatter while hard cornering at high speeds--
Drawbacks are ( and there are always pluses and minuses)--The car will ride harsher !! and will tend to "hop" over small bumps at low speeds and rattle your fillings !! You'll lose some of the soft ride if there was any to begin with
I don't think a solid mount is a good idea on the C5 trans at all, with any type of motor mount. Solid engine mounts means the front of the drivetrain is tied solidly to the chassis and any chassis twisting would then twist the drivetrain putting force into the mounts. The diff mount sure looks to be the weakest point so it would likely break first.
A poly mount would be OK. I believe the VBP mount actually has poly in it.
