Default Brake fluid flush question

Hey guys! Quick question...I am about to do a swith from my C5 stock brakes to new C6 Z51 brakes. I've got everything to do the switch but need to ask how much brake fluid should I get to do a complete flush of my cars system? Thanks!

I would consider buying at least 1 quart bottle, as well as 3-4 of the pint bottles.

Use the quart bottle first, then use any additional from the pints. The reason is that I don't think you'll need two full quarts, and the pints can be kept sealed for future use.

100% On the MARK!
Its easier to use the small bottle than to have a BIG bottle go to waste.
Make sure that you SUCK out the old stuff from the reservoir and refill it with new stuff and then bleed all the old stuff out when you bleed the new calipers after installation.

i just did new steel lines and pads, i definitely bought too much fluid. I drained the reservoir and kept bleeding each new line until it was clear on each corner. Used about half a gallon total.

Default Consider the Power Motive brake bleeder

jim02C5, I used the Motive brake bleeder to flush my brake system on an '02 C5. www.motiveproducts.com

I had changed to slotted and dimpled rotors as well as braided stainless steel brake hoses and new Hawks HPS pads. So I had alot of air at all four corners.

I sucked the old fluid out of the master cylinder reservoir, top the reservoir up with new Motul brake fluid and poured a pint into the Motive bleeder and hooked it up to the top of the reservoir. You then pump up the the Motive to about 15 to 20 ibs of pressure and then go to each corner and start bleeding. It really moves the old fluid out. You need to keep an eye on the level of fluid in your Motive unit as you don't want to accidentally start pushing air through the lines. It was the easiest method I ever tried to bleed or flush a brake system! I think I used 2 pints total, if that. Still have a pint unopened.

Hope you also ordered the Motive, M/C adapter part#1108, you don't want to mess with the "universal" adapter kit, that Motive offers.

I have been using the motive for years and love it. Quick flush of brake fluid at the track.

I do not though put the brake fluid in the motive. I suck out what is in the master and then fill the master with new. I then pump to 15 lbs as you stated. I keep a watch on it so it never runs dry.

I ordered mine from Mid America (had a gift certificate). Not sure if theirs has this part. Where can I pick this part up if the one Im geting doesnt have it. Also, is it a pice that specifically fits our C5's, the one from mid america says it fit 84-2012. Thanks for the heads up!

Hi Jim
The number I gave you is Motive specific.
It's the number for the M/C cap adapter.
It fits our C5's perfectly.

The universal kit will give you a headache

I ordered the Motive power bleeder w/the universal M/C kit, from JEGS.
Once I received it & seen the kit, phoned them (Jegs) & they refunded my money for the universal & sent the part # 1108 Motive M/C adapter.($28.)

It screws tight on top of the M/C, just like our GM one.

...just to add on, I did the brake system flush on my 03 DD (at 80K and 9 years) BL = the old (OEM) fluid was nasty. Add this to your preventative MX list.
