If the oil drain plug is at the front of the engine, can't one just back the rear wheels up a ramp to get the proper angle? I would assume one would need to get the front to climb up on blocks too.
I'm not a huge fan of jackstands. Thanks!!
Yeah it makes since.
But why not just pull the Vette up on ramps in front an use a jack to jack the rear end up. That will give you plenty room up front to get underneath an still capible of using the jack to jack the rear high enough to make sure you get all the oil out.
I jack up the front and pull the oil plug, and then lower the car back down to let it drain. I have a pan like this, and when I let the car down it has enough clearance to not touch: http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/web...content=value4
If you have ever seen the pan baffling, you can't ever get it all out. I posted pics on here somewhere. Having the rear higher helps, but oil will still remain in the pan. I'd say about a cup.
What if the incline is more than that?
I was thinking about building ramps for the front that would let me back up with the Rhino's in the rear. I can add to them as the car raises.
I've seen lots of threads on this but nothing that makes me feel secure about jacking up the rear so high. I've seen some problems with cracking and twisting the body if done in the wrong spot. There's got to be more than one way to accomplish this.
btw, if you read this and insist on a troll-like response, save your fingers and harass someone else.

That's what I do also, but then jack the rear up about 5~6" after putting the front end back on the ground to tilt the car some while draining. It's kind of a PIA, since you need a jack and oil pan that will clear everything but might be easier in the long run then messing with ramps and jacks.
It's easier to just use ramps up front, and then jack the rear end up during the draining process. The "BAT OIL PAN" on the C5 has ribs that the old oil will just hang around if not tilled forward enough. Most pan's are deep, C5 is wide and when looked from the bottom like a BAT, thus called BAT pan. I wouldn't slide ramps on the rear the weight would push them out. Good luck..
I thought so! Did it have to do with calculating percent of grade(incline)???
Thanks to everyone else. I'm in the process of making front ramps now. I have successfully backed the car up the Rhino ramps with no drama.
ONSPEED. Do you just back up the rear onto ramps?
Yeah, it's THAT discussion topic....
FWIW, since my car has been lowered slightly, I have to back it up on 4 ramps, so I can reach the drain plug and oil filter. I do raise the back of the car a bit, by using a jack, with a short piece of 2x4 on the pad, under the rear crossmember....
As you can see, the oil in each section on each side of the drain plug, won't drain by tilting.
I suppose a guy could drill some holes in the baffles to let if flow forward.
I found quite a lot of sediment iin the bottom of this

And people thought I was crazy when I said that not everything was caught by the oil filter. There's always some "junk" left in the bottom of an oil pan.
