Probably, if not, using your VIN the PCM can be re-flashed to your vehicle.

I was reading some things about a bcm being "asleep" the guy I bought the car from installed an aftermarket radio into this thing. Now the car runs but the security light blinks..would this have anything to do with my problem?

Also for Bill C. I could not find 641 in the diagram? I even looked in my book and general vicinity would help. Also, when I tried grounding the ABS/TC motor, it grounded fine from the nut to frame but if I touched the nut to the motor case, nothing. Is that normal or a sign of a short.
Thanks
Spence

Default update

Ok, i have an update on the car.
I am only showing three codes....B0844, P1571, P1644. I cleaned the ignition switch and fully charged the battery. i did rebuild the 4l60e last month so i had a lot of stuff apart on the car. I have two quick questions, what is the the big plug in the left rear well and what is the box that it appears to plug into. my manuals are out at the shop which i wont have access to for a few weeks. also, can i attempt to reground the ebcm to somewhere else in the car?

thanks as always
Spence

The 98 is a LOT different than the 01 wiring harness connector wise. Some stuff will match up BUT,, your better off finding the issues with yours and repairing that. You will also have to re-pin the PCM wiring harnesses if you upgrade to a newer PCM:

thanks Bill, i am planning on buying a new 97 pcm from a dealership, the one that is in the car now was a refurbished one so hopefully they will take it as a core. I am also planning on buying new pin connector ends and using a guage to test them to see if there is play.

The 97 pcm(#16232148) has been discontinued. None available in the dealer locator chain.
