I just completed the Column Lock bypass from C5Solutions. Worked perfect. Instructions were to the T. Took me 35 minutes including coffee break and vacuum out when finished. My problem now is the Pull Key, wait 10 seconds code. Happens almost every time. Anybody have any suggestions.
I was given a new CLB unit in exchange, but it still had the same problem.
I was told that the only other solution is to get a refund, or to replace the BCM ($1200+).
The bad thing about it is that it seems to be getting worse! I used to get the "pull key..." message just after I turned the key to "on", but now sometimes I don't get the message until the car starts to move (which is REALLY aggravating!)
So my choices are to put up with it, or risk getting a locked column at the worst possible moment. (No, my car is not covered by the recall)
You will sometimes get that error because the key sensor gets stuck. Inside the ignition switch there is a sliding nylon key sensor that gets stuck and fools your car. It thinks that there is a key in the ignition with a non-compatible resistor pellet so it throws that message. The best way to tell if this is your problem is if the bell rings with the door open without a key in the ignition. If this happens, insert the small end of a plastic wire tie into the ignition switch and "fiddle around" until the sensor releases. There is a TSB out to update your ignition switch.

I looked but could not find a TSB for the ignition switch replacement on a 2001 C5. Perhaps my car already has the updated ingition switch?
What year C5 do you have. 97-00 I am pretty sure will experience this failure. I would go ahead and have the C5Solutions CLB installed. You can do it yourself in about 30-45 minutes with a T-15 screwdriver. C5solutions will provide detailed instructions with your purchase. Cost $72.00 including shipping and handling. Better safe than sorry. Good luck.

Re: Pull Key, Wait 10 seconds. (quenchmasterc5)
I have the exact same problem as Kent1999 on my 98. C5 Solutions sent me another CLB and had the same problem. I disconnected the CLB but left it installed. Had the car for one year today.
pull fuse 25 under passenger side footwall this will clear the code. also make sur ethe chip on your key is clean, and insert key and wait till the gages cycle before starting this seems to have done the trick for me. :seeya
I must say i have no idea what you guys are talking about because i've never experienced this....BUT if i do is there an instructional link somewhere that i can save juuuust in case?
I had the same problem with my CLB, got so frustrating that I just had the TSB fix done. Problem is, that on '97's, the "fix" only involves replacing the same defective parts (circuitry was different in '97, which also seems to be why that year is more prone to confusion with a CLB installed). If you have an early '98, that may be part of the problem (same parts). I still have my bypass, just in case, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
I'll keep my eyes peeled for ya' 'round Oviedo-ville. :D
Has anybody heard that the column lock motor after a while over draws amperage and burns up the harness of the CLB? Sounds crazy to me but the Tec at the Chevy dealership told me that about my 2003 Corvette.
