Hi,
I'm having trouble on my 02 with the ignition switch. I replaced it with a new OEM switch but it's giving me the same trouble, it doesn't engage the solenoid. I've cleaned the key, changed keys, and sometimes I can lick it and it works-maybe coincidental. One time I must have tried a dozen times and almost ran out the battery before it fired and it was flooded by then. Another dozen times and it started running fine. I'm stuck.
Are you saying that the starter runs but wont engage the flywheel OR Is the starter not working at all when you do everything to crank the engine???????????
MAN,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, You dont know what your missing. Those resistor pellets taste like CHICKEN!!!
Ya know, I always wonder where the phrase "you really licked that problem" originated from. I didn't realize, that people were literally licking their problems. Have I been wasting my time with a meter and schematics all these years??
I was in the Army, I have a strong stomach. Water conducts electricity and can help make a connection if it's dirty.
Seriously, it's not clicking the solenoid. It doesn't make sense unless the new switch is junk which wouldn't surprise me. My mechanic ignores my suggestion that it could be corrosion at the solenoid connection. I'm prone to believe it's the switch again.

If you have WATER or even moisture on the Ignition Switch contacts,, MAN THE LIFE BOATS!
Remove the switch and conduct a resistance check on it. If it fails,, disassemble it and figure out what the exact is wrong and FIX IT.

Thanks for the video, Bill. Don't the codes mean something is wrong so how can you just delete them? Is it really possible that there is a code that occassionally prevents the key from making contact with the solenoid? I'm going to be near a dealer and will pick their brain about this problem. They must have experience with this problem.

So. If you are not willing to post your codes, what is it that you seek from this forum?

Thanks Lucky but Bill didn't mention posting codes, just deleting so I don't know how to read the codes since the video was just about clearing them. So I'll have to write down the numbers, this is all new to me so have patience please. How do I get to read the codes?

I'm at a loss. The video specifically details how to retrieve the codes, in a step by step fashion. If that does not make sense to you, perhaps you are better served, by taking your car to the dealer.....or trusted shop.

I missed that part but don't know what to do with the codes anyway so like you say I'll just take it to an expert. I'm not a mechanic by any means, just trying to find out what could cause the problem.

That's the whole point of joining this forum. You retrieve your codes, and post them. Then forum members can assist you with troubleshooting. If you are not capable of doing the work yourself, then we can at least tell you the most likely problem.

Without the codes, all everyone can do is guess.
Thanks Lucky, that's what I needed to hear. I'll put the laptop on the seat and run Bill's video so I get it right.
