Default Wires ::Help::

Group,

I am working to diagnose a no-start condition on my M6 '02 coupe and in the process I've come across some severed wires; they appear to have been cut (no I did not do this). The wires are attached to a connector just above and to the left of the BCM; attached to the plastic housing the BCM sits in. The connector has 3 wires, 1 black, 1 orange, 1 yellow running through it. Does anyone know what these wires are for?

From what you describe, it's the location where aftermarket accessory can be wired up. GND, B+ (constant) and B+ (switched). All C5s have it.

Is there a PO involved in this? Possibly a previous connection for some aftermarket device?

Thanks .. if something A/M was installed here it was removed before I purchased the car. I was unsure as to the nature of what it is and wanted to rule out any connection to my no-start. I'm replacing the ATS relay and noticed the wires hanging.

Your pic is a tad fuzzy but it looks like there may be a remnant Scotch-Lok splice connector on one of the wires. If your not using these, I would recommend folding/wrapping the orange and yellow wires back on themselves and taping them to ensure no short circuits happen accidently in the future. No need to worry about the black, it's ground and won't hurt anything.

Speaking of no starts this is really aggravating. I read in a thread some time ago that with regard to the theft deterrent relay that the yellow/black combo colored wire is the connection to the BCM and that when the Pass-key resistor reading is verified the BCM switches this wire to ground, completing the circuit and allowing the car to start. I ran the codes from the DIC and I've got B2723 for the Pass-key circuit.

Am I right in thinking that I could potentially disconnect the yellow/black combo wire from the BCM and manually, perm ground it out to the relay and completely bypass the Pass-key feature all together? Thoughts? Thanks.

The BCM uses the VATS to do several things. One of them is enable the FUEL Relay. So,, the answer is NO. If you ground out the yellow/black wire,, YES it will crank but it wont run if you cant satisfy VATS.
