Default Car running bad........

Yesterday as I was driving home, (in considerable rain) so I was driving slow. I felt the car start to run bad, like a real bad bog, but when I reved the engine it went away. It cleared up midway home then started again just as I got home so I parked the car thinking it was water on the plug or coil pack.
This morning I started the car and it continued to do it all the while popping off engine misfire codes.. I noticed when I revedd it up I heard a light metallic "tink" sound...It will clear up with the higher RPM but the bog is bad.....Any Ideas?

Pull your codes and post them, also pull your valve covesr and see if you have any broken valve springs.

As said above, check your codes on your DIC. I'm thinking electrical.....
Old seat of the pants test.......pull into a dark garage, lift hood and start the engine. If you see a "light show", that is where the problem is. Make sure all plugs and wires have a good connection.

Get back to us.

Pretty good chance its just a sparkplug wire problem. Like it was recommended already,, examine the engine running in the DARK. If you see sparks or glowing wires,, theres your issue.

IF,, you do have wire issues, recommend ordering the GM Red performance Wires. Excellent quality wires for approx $60. Get them from www.gmpartshouse.com

Before you replace them,, MAKE SURE that they are properly connected and on the plug and coil wire all the way. Until you can get new plug wires, spray them down with WD-40 and wipr them off. It may help.

So I am home working on it now. I started it up and it was a little light so I could not see any sparks but to clear the record I ran my fingers all over the plug end to the coil,,,,,,,,in hopes it would not shock me LOL.-No shock
I pulled the air intake, no water (thank god) and cleaned the MAF with some CRC and cleaned the air filter. While waiting for it to dry,,,,,,,I did notice a decent ammount of oil around the TB blabe though, I forsee a catch can in my near future,,,,,,,
I hooked the MAF back up and started it. It sounded fine so I gave it a couple of slow revs , It was running a little rough and I noticed the CE light on so I cleared it and Instantly the Idle cleared up... I can not hear a bog at 1500/2000/2500 rpm but it is sitting in my driveway at the moment, I will take it for a spin in an hour when the filter dries, and re post..

So on the very first drive it did it. Same bog at cruising rpm, I turned around turned the defroster off and cleared the code as I was driving, The bog went away once I released reset....And never came back......Has to be electrical. I have Tailor wires on it now and they are less than 2 years old and have less than 20k on them. I cant imagine they are in need of replacement already.....But when I do swap I will get me a set of them GM hot wires. ( you think they are better than the MSD's Bill? or the same but cheaper, lol. Thanks for all the help guys.

Well you knew that was coming.

Funny, the GM wires look identical to MSD minus the printing.
I run MSD wires and you can tell by my sig that my cars run like crap ........

OP, you just might carefully remove each wire and check with an ohm meter, clean and replace. They should all measure nearly the same, so if one is different, you will know.

Clean the coil terminal and the plug terminal. HV does not like moisture as Bill alluded.

Good luck!

Ron

I would find it hard to believe that anything broke in your valvetrain while driving slowly, and coincidentally, it was raining hard, and you suddenly have a rough running engine. My bet is on an electrical problem due to the moisture in the air. However, on a long shot, by any chance did you put gas in it very recently? Maybe you got a load that has some water in it...

Sooooo, on my way to work this morning (a 27mi. drive) the car started the bogging again at lo RPM's. It kept throwing the P 0300 code (cylinder misfire) after clearing it several times it threw a P0175 (fuel system rich bank 2) So I am sure it poped the rich code because it is not firing in 1 or more cylinders. Of course 3 miles away from work it cleared up and ran fine..........I even recorded it this morning, leadfoot4 it is below half a tank so I am sure it is not the gas. This all started because of the rain storm. I did not even go through a deep puddle and there was no water under the hood sitting on the intake all the coil packs are dry ect.
I do plan on testing the spark on the wires. Has anyone ever had a coil pack go bad on them? The wires are fairly new ( I talked to the last owner last night) he said they have less that 10k on them. I am really glad this is not a valvetrain issue. But chasing an electrical issue may prove to be a bit more frustrating.

Now oddly enough the previous owner had some LT headers installed and told me the car started throwing the P 1416 code (AIR SYSTEM BANK 2) and it needed a Passanger Check valve for the AIR system. Now when I first got the car it threw this code 2 times and thats it. Now I threw the P 0175 (FUEL SYSTEM RICH BANK 2) this morning.. Thoughts??

Hey Bill if the ignition system had a faulty ground which ground location would likely be suspect according to your diagram; 11, 12 or 13 or none of the above?

It seems the car does it on inital start up right. As I was leaving work I limped it off base turned the traction controll off then lit right into her, 1st through 2nd and eased it into third. That was the last issueI had untill I stopped at the package store on Oceanna. When I came out I started her up and left the parking space easy like because I already felt the bog back and there was a C6 owner out there LOL. Then again, I turned the TC off and hit it 1st thru 2nd and eased into 3rd...No more issues the rest of the way home...I am going out to check the ground points on the car engine bay now. I will keep everyone posted.
