Default Change Oil Soon Message

My '99 with 48K total miles is giving me the oil change warning. Oil was done 8 months/5K miles ago. This seems a little early - in the past it has generally gone more like 7K miles/10-12 months.

Is this in the normal range?
Should I be concerned?
Will I ever find love? Oh, wait, different forum.

I did reset it when I changed it last time. Oil level is good. I'll just plan on changing it in the next couple of weeks.

if my car did that I would have changed the oil only 12 times in 14 years.....

I've heard the computer adjusts the oil change warning based on how you drive. Were you driving more agressively?

The oil life monitor works off an algorithm. I drive mostly on the highway and oil life is 10k - 12k miles. Getting 5k - 7k miles between changes would be considered normal for a car driven with more stops / idling. I don't think your experience is anything to be concerned about.

Oil and a filer isn't that much money... For peace of mind just change the oil and filter.. Make sure that your 100% on the OLM and see how it pans out. I have driven my 02 z aggressively and had to change it a LOT earlier than I would normally.

I daily drive my 03 very aggressively. OCI for me is approx 7.5k-8.5k. Which is about as long as I care to leave the oil in the car.

Id be curious as to what a used oil analysis says about mobil 1 after 8K miles of driving. my guess would be that you should have left it in another couple thousand miles. I wish I would have kept the analysis I did on my wifes civic. The standard oil change interval per the manual for it was 10K miles. We used amsoil the first time I changed it, when I got the analysis back it recommended going another 5K on the next one.

All I can say is no matter how many times I've explained the OLM, in the last 12 years and how it works, even seasoned members don't have a clue. Im disappointed, and wonder why I waste my time here. Mileage has very little to do with oil life integrity. It plays a part but a small part. RPM, temp, shear, open loop vs. closed loop are much more of a concern to the OLM.

Guess I should add that I go by the OLM, not actual mileage.

Been driving it pretty hard? That will decrease the mileage the oil will go vs. the Oil Life Monitor. If I drive my Z06 hard, oil life it near 0% at 5~6K miles.

Check your owner's manual to make sure the procedure is being followed correctly.

http://www.c6registry.com/Technical/...98corvette.pdf

Page 2-93:

To reset the OIL LEE reminder after an oil change:
1. With the ignition on, press the TRIP button so the
OIL LIFE percentage is displayed.
2. Press RESET and hold for two seconds. The word
RESET will appear, then OIL LIFE 99%.

If you are sure you reset it, then listen to the OLM and change the oil.

Turn on the ignition (engine OFF)

Bring up the oil life monitor percent display

Press the accelerator fully to the floor and release it four times.

Your OLM display should read 100%
