Default C5 Replacement Shock Question

Interested in new shocks for my 2000 C5. Would C6 Z06 OEM shocks be the way to go? Found new OEM C6 Z06 set of four for 285.00. Any guidance or thoughts. Thanks in advance. Mark

That's what I used and I'm happy with them.

They work great and depending on which sways and end links you have, up grade them at the same time. It will be a different car when your done.

Contact Gene Culley or Patrick www.gmpartshouse.com I believe that he has them for LESS..

They are an excellent upgrade and you will see a big increase in high speed handling.

Consider metal end links for the sway bars if yours are still plastic.

I'm putting these on next week. Looking forward to the suspension tightening up even further. And both GMPartsHouse and PartsTaxi have them cheaper.

Honestly the Bilsteins are probably one of the best upgrades you can do that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. I think mine were $300 or $350, but the driving was night and day, both firm and soft when you want it. They will also last a very long time. I think that was probably the best 300 bucks I've spent were I noticed such an improvement. They also work very well if you choose to lower your car.

I went with the Bilsteins also. For about the same price as the GM OEM's, you get aftermarket shocks that will probably last a lifetime and are completely rebuildable. Sure the GM shocks are good but the longevity will be about the same as the ones you have now. Bilsteins are known to not fade over time and come with a lifetime warranty.

Is there a difference in the ride? I am looking to retain a very comfortable ride. I do more touring than I do racing. I have the originals in my car, and the ride seems harsh. I put Pilot Sport A/S's on, figuring that would help. Thanks in advance!

I went with Bilstein sports years ago when my vette was aggressively lowered and did not like. It felt like I was driving a mine cart off tracks. I switched to Koni FSDs soon thereafter and haven't looked back. Smooth and firm at the same time, like

I was actually surprised how much smoother the Bilsteins were compared to the stock shocks and my car is slammed. It was both smoother and more responsive, better feel, etc. It's that hard to describe smooth and firm feel, but it literally was all around better at everything. Can't go wrong especially at $350 but I also came from stock C5 Z06 shocks so that might have something to do with it.

Well,,,,,,,,,, Lets try to put this so everyone understands it. I you put a stock LS1 corvette FE1 base suspension in a ride comfort scale where 1 is a nice plush caddy and 10 is bone jarring rocket ship on rails,, the stock C5 would fall right around 5.
It you change to the C6 ZO6 shocks, it would up the scale to 6

If you want comfy shocks go with stock and or look else where.

C6Z06 shocks aren't harsh at all. I just put mine on yesterday. Maybe whenever these are worn in a few years I'll move to an aftermarket shock.
