Default Staples in vert top causing scratches!

I keep finding these blob-like scratches, in the same spot, just beyond the rubber trim on the rear deck. Come to find out that there are little staples in strategic places at the base of my convertible top. Is this normal?(it can't be). Should I remove them? It ssems like they're there for a reason.

I don't experience any of those with mine. I have looked at/cleaned the rear base of the top several times and not noticed any staples. Has your top been replaced or is it still OEM?

Looked my car up on the GM global connect site which has all services performed, and it didn't show anything about the top so I figure it's original. It did show rear diff gasket and cover seal replaced, but it looks like it's leaking again. Probably not done right the first time.

My C4 used to have a strip you could put down to protect the paint. I located on for the C5 here: Deck Lid Protector The C5's have the built in strip but many have had paint wear through.

Also, see these articles: Top Fix #1 Top Fix #2

Also, new weather strip will raise the top off of the paint.

Thanx for the input. The marks are located just outside that protective strip and they're being cause by these tiny staples in the roof where it has some folds. Go figure!

Sounds like the rubber seal needs to be replaced to lift the top off of the deck.
