c5 rearend question
Launched hard and something in rearend let go. Havent put it on lift yet. has hardened halfshafts with 342 gears. are there cvjoints or u-joints that could have let go? hear clunking (like let go u-joint) when I try to move it forward. It moves in reverse but I don't want to move it til I get it on lift to check it out. No fluid leak or visiable damage..

The GM CV joints don't break very often (some aftermarket replacements do though). Sounds expensive. You'll just have to get under it and work from the rear forward until you find the break.

Jack one rear wheel off the ground, put the trans in neutral. IF,, you can turn that wheel easily,, your rear is damaged. You should have to apply a good bit of force to turn the jacked wheel because you have a limited slip rear and the drivers wheel is tied to the passengers wheel by friction clutches.
Change sides and repeat the same test.
If you put the trans in gear you should not be able to rotate the jacked wheel.
