hi,anybody out there with a z06,c5. Can you measure the top of your exhaust tip to bottom of bumper fascia and give me the correct distance.
Just had a set installed on my stock c5 but the height gaps are very uneven side to side, dont know if one side is low or the other is high? My old system had a gap of 2''. has anyone ever had this problem? How can it be remedied? Can the bolt holes in the flange be filed a little to twist the tips up or down?Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.Oh and has anyone ever had the rivet break from the jacking point on the rear frame, how to re- rivet or just spot weld? Thanks
normally there is some slop in the bolts on the exhaust of any car and you can tweak it slightly to move them. not sure if mine use to be even of not. i dropped the exhaust to replace the starter and just now noticed it was off when i went to measure
thanks for quick reply racebum, mine are 2'' on 1 side and 3/4'' other side really looks stoopid. I am considering filing holes to twist one side, think it will work.a few degrees at the FLANGE... may translate to a few inches at the rear....I think....I hope!

yea, that's excessive. see if you can loosen the bolts and twist the exhaust at all. the rear axle back section may have some degree of twist to it
No need to cut of file anything. Just loosen the bolts on the flange, align and tighten. I use a piece of 2x4 between the tips and bumper to do the alignment.
dont the rear hangers have a couple slots in them for adjustment? maybe not enought from the sounds of it.. my buddys car was off like that when he bought it and IIRC he moved it from the top to the bottom slot and hung lower.. Been a while so i might be on crack and not remember it correctly. but it was something along thoes lines.. maybe it was not in the hanger and he put it in properly.. dont remember but either way there should be a way to adjust it correctly unless its bent/damaged.

redzmonte, thanks for reply i'm starting to think something maybe a little out of whack.I don't think there are multiple slots for rear hanger but i am considering shimming the rear hanger on the high side to brink it down, getting a lot of ideas from all you guys, thanks for the input.
Thanks silverbullet6speed,I've already got her up in the air but it appears the flange holes are just big enuff to clear the threads on the bolts.Out is coming the high speed grinder and bits for a little wiggle room.
Yep, I had to slot the holes on one of mine to get perfect alignment.
But it was not off near as far as yours.
But, you might start up front, and loosen the 3 bolts at the front of each flange on the manifolds, and see if the intermediate pipe will twist over a smidge. Hanger slots don't have adjustment, but you could use washers to modify them. They don't have as much effect on the tips as twisting the flange though.
Thanks for input "THe Wrench" I get the feeling its gonna take a whole lot of tweaking to get these pipes right.Funny thing is before i broke the flange off the other pipes lined up perfectly.(my wife says I should have just welded the old flange back to the old pipes) lol But you know how us vette guys are, always looking to make something a little better!
You can install the rear hanger tab in the rubber isolator incorrectly and causes a hanging height difference. The FLANGE normaly corrects for horzontal angle differences not hanging height differences.
Get a mirror and a flash light and make sure that the rear hanger tab is properly installed in the rubber isolator. Seen it improperly installe too many times!!
Hi Bill, I loosened up the flange bolts and pulled the mounting tab back into position it did not look like it was deep enough into the rubber bushing .Trouble is their is now a 3/16 gap between the 2 flanges.I think that the pipe going around the rear sub frame(if thats what its called) is bent incorrectly. May have to buy some aftermarket flange and have it ground down to specs.Only thing is whether pipe will clear this same"sub frame" when put down on all 4s..guess theres only one way to tell. guess thus what you get from flea bay..things are so clean though looks liked they were yanked off the assembly line…Now I'm beginning to know why.Still I'm gonna make these things work.
so you are saying axle back pipes are bent? they should be symetrical and mirrored to one one another so you have something to compare if you set them side by side, maybe they came off a wrecked car and were bent a little to make them off. Ti is not easy to work with but i would bet someone can heat the pipes up enough to straighten it out if its bent.. Reading your posts you said you replaced a flange on one of the pipes with the old mufflers, or what was the problem and what flange was replaced?
aligning the mufflers and pipes should be straight forward, start at the rear and work your way forward. I would make sure they are in the hangers straight and loosly thread the bolts in then once everything is lightly bolted together then start tightening them up and they will pull together and snug up (Assuming everything is built/installed correctly).
redzmonte, old exhaust was s.s flange, broke off at axleback joint,i hear its common. could have welded it back but found gorgeous set of titanium axlebacks on fleabay. When I had them off car I looked at symmetry etc but didn't get out the tape measure, guess I should have before they were installed, now very hard to get a tape up in the *** end of vetted suppose I could get out the torch and come along, find an oak tree.HaHa used to do stuff like this when I was a kid. Lots of options wish I still worked in a body shop,(long time retired) would throw a hook on it and yank it out w/ 10 ton ram.Ah the good old days. p.s only I side is out of wack.very odd no visible signs of damage when I bought them. Thats why Im wondering if they were yanked off the assembly line and somehow wound up on flea bay.??? Or like you say maybe the donor car was wrecked and twisted,or misaligned this one side. One way or another I'm gonna make em fit!
Hi Bill C, Thanks for taking the time to drag out and photo the system,Only the first image loaded but that is what i bought.Thats what mine look like but were not even driven enuff to turn blue.I tell ya its just weird ,Wish I knew the truth behind these pipes, whatever, I will figure something out and send a pic before and after And explanation of fix.Right now where i am it is getting very cold so don't know if i'll fix this before spring. I will however rebuild my tpms over the winter. Thanks again. wl
