Not a wild idea at all. That's how the Laser Blinder (www.usblinder.com) works. I've got two units (they come in pairs) mounted in the false black grills in front, and one just above the rear license plate. They go off occasionally, usually when my Valentine does not. It could be false alarms from tailights, or real laser where I did not see the Officer and the laser beam was aimed low enough to miss my high-mounted Valentine.
My recollection is that the cost is about $300 for two transponders plus switch and wiring. If you want a third one like me, you gotta buy another pair.
Cool Deal, so this still seems like the unit to get. I wanted to get a stealth like one and mount it in the ash tray, but nothing seems to work as well as the V1 from what I hear.
If they do, what if you mount a row of LED's on the front of the car (near where they usually shoot) and when the LASER unit illuminates our car, the LEDs sense this and light up to confuse the LASER unit. Probably a wild hair idea!!!!!!
As I was told one time, we drive the best cars on the road, why not own the best protection on the road, V1. Hard wired it in, it comes alive when I turn the key on and I never leave home without it. I've been saved a couple of small times and saved one BIG time that would have paid for several V1's. :D
I agree, it's a great mod.
Amen to the use of Valentine One. I most usually drive with the unit in mute mode for auditory alarm but rely on the remote for the visual display to get my attention. I also rely heavily on the strength of the alarm to validate bogeys from the real deal. Has worked well for me. I have noticed , however, weird false alarms from other cars driving with radar detectors. What's up with that?
Check out that speedzones.com article and take a look at the 'detection from behind' graph. Check out the difference in Ka detection between the V1 and EVERYTHING ELSE. Nice to know!
I have both a V-1, (in the C-5) and a Passport 8500. (C-4)
I'd recomment the V-1 without question. I believe it's clearly superior.
I know you can still get a ticket, was just wondering how many
have with the V1. Anyhow, great install site! Think I will get one ASAP! Doesn't throw many false alarms? I was gonig to get the passport 8500 as some claim its just as good or better for less, but still thinking the V1 is better.
"Hardwired" means that the wiring setup in the car is permanent, rather than the cigar-lighter plug. The advantages are that the unit comes on when you start the car and turns off when you shut down the car. The wiring can be run from the rearview mirror, or from the electrical connections in the passenger's kick panel. This makes a neater installation that, while not really hidden, is less likely to attract the attention of a casual thief or police officer. Since the wiring plugs into the side of the unit, you can still unplug it and use with the cigar-lighter cord in another car.
My V1 is mounted just to the right of the rearview mirror, as high as possible. Not totally invisible, but you ned to really look to see it. I have the remote display (I think they call it the concealed display) on the top of my steering column with mounting tape. The velcro was too thick and wobbly for me. I tried the display in the ash tray but didn't like it- had to take my eyes off the road too much at speed. Try both and see what's best for you.
Speaking of laser false alarms, I just bought my third Valentine. It seems to works as all the others, but I have noticed an unusual number of laser false alarms on vehicle rear mounted LED lights, especially if they are mounted up high like some SUV's.
All of our V1s do it, those LEDs on the new Trailblazers and Envoys are the worse, sets off the Laser warning everytime. :yesnod: :yesnod:
Oh, this is good news to me. My wife has a '02 Envoy, and I'm getting a '03 Vette with a Valentine. But at least we don't drive that much together, meaning both vehicles together at the same time following one another. But, there are alot of other Envoys and Trailblazers out there.
Yes, I have been convinced to go with Valentine vs. Escort. The one cool thing I liked about the Escort was the little clip that held the detector on the bottom of the rearview mirror. But since I've bought neither the Escort or the mounting clip, I'll just roll that $320 or so and a little more for the Valentine. :) :)
I've got my V-1 hardwired in, my wife liked it so much I got one for her car  Delaware just bought a Laser gun, I was headed down the highway and the dreaded "L" lit up, the Troopers were Laser gunning a car about 1/4 mile ahead, I pounced on the binders, then they lit me up, no ticket, score another one for the V-1, don't leave home without it! :seeya
Man I need to hurry up and get one of these. I just spent almost $400 on a XM radio system. :smash: Anyhow, anyone know if these work, with all this talk about lazer? http://www.usblinder.com
