Transgo Shift Kit????
Someday..........
I care to. I also don't drive around at WOT all the time either. Matter of fact,
rarely do I drive it hard at all.
But what most are talking about is "driveability." The hard, firm shifting
is not a perception of quick shifts, but is very real. It also allows for a more
controlled shift.
I don't have a transgo now, but it is next thing on my list.
I had one on my '76 Vette (3 sp auto) and the driveability was much better.
It allowed me to drive it like a stick. and after 10 years, the trans felt like new.
No slippage at all between shifts and always felt good.
Even my '98 Grand Prix GTP shifts better than the Vette. It won't search
for shifts as I feather the throttle up or down slightly like the Vette.
Try this test. Moderately accelerate from a standing start (not WOT) and
gently push the throttle as it shifts 1-2. Then slightly feather the throttle
back a little. Feel that 2-3 long delay? and then if you throttle froward again,
it doesn't really know where to shift? The kit reduces that as well by allowing
you to hold the shift longer.
Also, as you're travelling ~65mph and try a moderate throttle downshift.
Very quick 4-3, but if you need to throttle back as little and throttle up
again, there is still more delay. This is where the programming can help.
(Hypertech, etc.).
As stated from other members, you will favor the difference if and when
you get a chance to drive it with a kit.
Some features are subtle and others are more pronounced.
Either way, you'll wonder why it wasn't set up like that from the factory.
