Default 2004 shuts off

My corvette dies when the temp reaches 225. I've checked fuel pressure and it holds steady at 61lb. Temp cools down to 213-217 car will restart. This car has 82000 miles and is a six speed. Only mod is a catback

Thanks. I tried to post again but not sure where it went. My car hasn't shown any codes. The car runs perfect until it hits 225-228 then shuts down.

I pulled the codes and there wasn't any. I had pulled and erased my codes a few months ago and haven't had any since.

As soon as the car shuts off on its own,, without changing ANYTHING,,, READ THE DTCs and post what you get.

DO NOT turn the ignition off or change the position of the ignition switch. Pull up the DTCs and post what you have.

I have done that also. And still nothing comes up. Sometimes it will say check gauges but never a code.

The only other way to figure out what causes it to shut down is to troubleshoot the BASICS. Air Fuel or spark.

Figure out if you are loosing Spark or Fuel. You may have normal fuel pressure but if the injectors are not firing, that wont matter. If the coils are not firing it wont run either.

You can start with the ignition switch. When they fail, that is one of the symptoms. Repairing or replacing the ignition switch is a hell of a lot easier than a crank sensor.

Bill. I've been reading different posts on this forum for a few months. Do you think that the fans coming on pull enough juice to make the ignition act up.

I know it causes all kinds of problems when the contacts are worn.

IF,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, it were a normal C5, there NO way that the fans would effect the electrical system. However, if,,,,, there is a poor connection somewhere in the HOT at all times or Hot in RUN & START circuit, I would have to say that it is possible. Turn on the AC before the car heats up. That will cause the high speed fan to turn on automatically.

also turn on as many loads as you can and see if that has an effect.

You could have a problem in your engine compartment fuse box that is heat related.

Open the lid and see if one of the relays or fuses id hot to the touch or see if the car runs longer with the fuse box lid open.

Keep in mind that some crank sensor failures happen when they reach a certain temperature. There were alot of bad crank sensors on early 2000 GM cars that would fail only when hot. Just something to keep in mind. When my crank sensor began going bad, my stalls would only happen once the engine had warmed up to normal operating temperature.
