I found a small puddle on the garage floor under the differential last weekend when I returned from a day of auto crossing. My worst fear was that it was the dreaded oil seal leak. No problem just take in it on warranty.
I drove it the next day and I didn't have any more leaking so I'm thinking it was just fluid that leaked out of the overflow above the left side cover. After I cleaned it all up it hasn't leaked since. I am going to add a little more fluid back in and I thought I might as well just change the fluid out completely because it has 13K miles.
The question I have is - are all of the gear lubes GM approved ? I don't want to get any grief from the dealer on a warranty issue in the future for putting in something they don't recognize as "approved". I have heard that the Amsoil is and Mobil 1 are, but Redline is not officially approved - is this true ?
I have the same question about the MN6 trans fluid as well.
Don't know about Mobil-1, but neither Amsoil Series 2000 75W-90 or Redline 75W-90 require additional friction modifier. It is pre-mixed and adding more will only make your clutches slip more defeating your anti-slip capability.
Personally, I went with the Amsoil because it is more thoroughly tested then Redline. Mobil-1 ATF states right on the back that it is not synthetic.
Although the differential uses synthetic from the factory, after changing it AND using the GM friction modifier, some people get low speed clunking. They have to go to conventional lubricant and additive to stop clunking.
Since GM uses synthetic adn they say you never have to change it, I left my alone. I changed 6 speed trans to Mobil 1.
