Ok, so apparently my initial post was a little had to read. Let me attempt make it more clear.
1) Yes the ORIGINAL design of the LS1 MSD coils had problems
2) Has anyone run the revised design coils? These coils would have had to be bough directly from MSD within the last two years to qualify as the new design.
If you have the new designed coils, I'm interested in knowing if you've had any problems with them.
Please do not feel the need to post about the old coils, we know the old coils are junk.
Apparently a lot of the failures can be attributed to the inability of the factory harness to supply the correct voltage to the coils. MSD sells a replacement harness to address this.

please do not waste your money on those... if you feel compelled to have them just send me your coils and $600 and I'll paint them red for you... the stock coils are plenty capable for most peoples power needs... many switch to the newer ls2/3/7 or truck style with heat sinks (I actually have these)... if you switch to another oem coil you might need to have your tuner copy the dwell table from whatever vehicle the coils came from to make sure they work to their full potential

You will most definitely need the dwell map from the vehicle that the other coils came from, especially with the ACDelco D585 flex fuel truck coils (the ones with the heat sink).
In regards to the original thread about MSD quality, I read awhile back in a performance trade magazine that I receive, an article about fraudulent copies of several brands of performance company products. Many companies were mentioned that were screwed by Chinese companies knocking off their products. Two brands that had the most problems were Aeromotive and MSD. The copies were so good, they had problems identifying some of their own products. I guess MSD didn't want to mention they were having this problem because of how this would affect their business. They weren't happy about having to replace parts they hadn't made in the first place. I know they had difficulties dealing with and resolving this problem. I have used several of the parts over the years and have not had any problems. I'm using their plug wires now and they haven't caused any problems.

and many of us have been running stock coils with no problems... there are very high hp cars out there still on oem coils so the msd's really aren't needed and it's doubful if they are even any better than oem besides the shiny red paint, the money could be better spent elsewhere in my opinion
I gotta say, I don't get it. You have 10 replies, in order they state:
-Junk
-Junk
-Reinforce, they are junk
-Bad, junk
-Crap
-No need recommendation, but likes MSD
-Garbage
-No need recommendation
-Other brand recommended
-Trash
Then you say you have no respect for them. Yet, you're still wondering if people have used their newer coils (in other words, you still want to try them).
Assuming you're he11bent on using MSD coils, just buy a set and tell others here the results.
ive had them on my F-150 with no issued and 63,000 miles... how ever the truck coils allow for more dwell due to the heat sink built into them... I'd go that route first... if you need more due to "Boost spark blowout" I'd go with Lance's design over at PanteraEFI....... http://www.panteraefi.com/Coils.html
