Default BCM issues 99 m6

I have diagnosed the bcm being bad after receiving a no communication error by checking codes.

The car is a 99 m6 coupe, bcm 09381399

Are there any other BCMs I can use or is this the exact part I need? I've read conflicting information using Google, looking for some clarification (01-04 BCMs seem to be about 1/2 price)

Also, after I get a different BCM do I have to have the dealership tune it or is this something I can do with HP tuners

Thanks, I'd read that thread and bookmarked it.

If I'm understanding correctly I MIGHT be able to use a different BCM but it's a risk so I'll get the same servo number.

From there I plug it in, do the 3 step 10 minute vats relearn then remove or change the fuel/mph cutoff, at this point I can drive it to the dealer to get the RPO codes set. Is this correct?

Also there was some terminology in that thread I wasn't familiar with:
CL failure
K-harness
installing the CLB

And this would be the correct bcm as the servo # is the same, the other number is irrelevant?

8VETTE7 is the guru on the CL issues. I have a Tech2 if you happen to be in OR.

There may be other issues but I'm pretty certain the bcm is bad,

Getting a 99 BCM is not easy. Try Marc at VetteNuts.net

He better buy it then. Even for my 01 I made sure I have a spare PCM and BCM along with a number of other key items.

You can use a used BCM, and get the RPO option codes reprogrammed, BUT you will not be able to reprogram the airbag control module (SDM) serial number that is stored in the BCM, which will cause a 1001 DTC (Configuration Error) in the airbag module. This DTC will cause the airbag light to stay on, and the airbags will be disabled unless you reset this DTC everytime after you start your car. (reset thru the DIC).

Only a new BCM, that was never initially programmed, can have the SDM serial number programmed into it.

If it were me,, I would get my tooth brush out and some alcohol and clean that board and see if that resolves the issue. Sure cant hurt anything.

Check the HVAC Air Box Drain as if it doesnt allow the condensation to drain out of the HVAC Air box, it will flood back in through the hvac fan motor and leak on the BCM.

I ordered the bcm on the morning of the 1st, still has not arrived and it had 2 day priority shipping.

I wasn't aware of the air bag light issue.

At this point I'm almost ready to pull all the factory efi and replace with an aftermarket unit... If it's going to have a bunch of dash lights on I don't see any reason not to.
