I had a similar problem and ended up replacing the multi-function switch and the problem was fixed. There are contacts inside the switch that had lost spring tension. I believe that the switch could be repaired for a lot less than the price of a new one. It would be free if you do your own work. There are write ups here on repairing the switch on the forum.
