Vararam Installation questions
I'm ordered a VRM-VR-B2 Air Intake, and Power Duct for my 1997 corvette. The attached image (Intake.jpg) shows the current setup of the car as I purchased it. The car is also missing the factory fog light plastic holders (deflectors), and factory screws.
My questions are as follows:
1. The installation instructions - http://www.vararam.com/VR-B2_instructions.pdf - Step 11 states - "try to re- use factory screws if standard c5". Do you happen to know what size/thread screw to use?
2. In lower left corner of the attached image, you can see a small air filter and rubber tubing which runs to the front left of the car and is connected to the secondary air injection pump. Does the rubber tubing need to connect to the Vararam Air Intake box, or is this
not needed any more?
3. In the center of the attached image (Intake.jpg), there is an electrical connection, and a small black rubber hose. When looking at the pictures and installation instructions - http://www.vararam.com/power-duct-instuructions.pdf - for the Power Duct Systems, I don't see any place for these items to connect to the power duct. Where do these go?
Thank you for your help.
Eddie

Question 2: That tube needs to stay and there is a factory plastic elbow that is used to attach that tube to the top of the air filter box. I'd try to find one from a forum member or supporting vendor and hook it back up.
Question 3: The power duct is not set up to accommodate the parts you mention. I think it is more for the newer C5's that eliminated those parts. Unless there is some kind of adapter or workaround, you'll have to keep the factory parts from the engine to the air filter housing. If you'll look at the power duct versus the factory bridge, you'll see that there really isn't much difference.
Be careful. The silicone tubing supplied with the kit is not a good fit and the clamps are 'way too big. When you try to tighten up the one that attached to the airbox lid it will actually fold in the lip of the airbox. The airbox lid lip is far too flimsy and the tubing is just a little too large in diameter. If the airbox was made from the same plastic as the Power Duct it would work MUCH better.
I installed the VR-B2 and Power Duct on my car late last year. If I knew then what I know now I would not have done it. I can't tell much difference in power and I'll have to get a computer tune to keep from throwing "lean" codes all the time. More money...

Thanks for your reply!
1. I'll buy a bunch of different screws from the hardware store, and see how it goes. Worse case, I'll just go with the interference fit and see how it holds up.
2. After calling a few places it seems the factory plastic elbow is obsolete. I'll see what I can dig up.
3. Thanks for the advice. I'll end up keeping the factory intake bridge and put the money towards something else.
I really don't like how the current K&N setup fits on this car, which is why I'm replacing it. The main filter element pushes back against hood, the radiator shroud, and doesn't fit over the upper plastic radiator support correctly. So I thought I'd replace the ducting as well while I was at it.
My main concern is getting everything back in shape and not adding power at this point.
Thanks for the advice!

If I can't find the elbow adapter that connects the rubber hose from the Vararam to the secondary air injection (pictured above). Do you see any reason why I couldn't use a block-off plate on the Vararam, and keep the current setup which uses a small air filter hooked directly to the SAI?
